There are still a few federal relief programs in place to aid those who are struggling, including monthly advance child tax credit payments increased Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits emergency rental relief and the pause on federal student loan payments.
Eligibility requirements vary, especially by location, so not everyone will qualify for them.
The grassroots advocacy organization ExtendPUA has a resource page for additional financial, career and mental health resources, which goes beyond government assistance and includes help for things like utilities, Wi-Fi, UI claims disputes and “lots of mutual aid,” says ExtendPUA Executive Director Stephanie Freed. “We shouldn’t be relying on mutual aid to make sure people are surviving in this country, but it exists and is there to help.”
She spent the last few weeks fielding desperate messages from families experiencing an immediate loss of income. “The message we’re telling everyone is: This is not right, and it’s not their fault. They’re not alone.”
Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation
Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation is a supplemental benefit that is paid on top of an individuals weekly benefit amount for state unemployment insurance benefits, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, Extended Benefits or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
The American Rescue Plan Act, signed into law by the President on March 11, 2021, extends the FPUC program through September 2021.
FPUC provides a $300 per week benefit from Dec. 27, 2020 Sept. 4, 2021.
FPUC provided a $600 per week benefit from March 29 July 25, 2020.
Note: If you do not receive at least $1 in benefits for a week because you earned excessive wages, you will not be eligible to receive FPUC for that week.

What Is A Back
Some states have launched programs using funds from the American Rescue Plan to incentivize people for taking a job.
Arizona set aside $300 million of federal funds to offer a one-time $2,000 bonus for people who rejoin the workforce with a full-time job. Those who go back to work part-time receive a $1,000 one-time stipend. Workers must also make less than $25 dollars an hour or the equivalent salary of $52,000 a year.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s office also announced the state would cover up to three months of child care for returning workers.
Montana’s Return-to-Work Bonus initiative will pay workers $1,200 who discontinue taking unemployment benefits after completing four weeks of work. According to the state’s website, workers must be willing to take a job in any industry.
And under Oklahoma’s program, workers would also receive $1,200 after six weeks at a new job.
Update: No Biden Executive Order States Have Funding To Expand Unemployment Benefits
The Biden Administration has confirmed that they wont push to extend federally funded unemployment benefits past the September 6th expiration date via Executive Order or Congressional action. Instead they are encouraging states with high unemployment to use some of the existing $350 billion in ARPA stimulus allocated for State and Local Fiscal Recovery initiatives to fund enhanced unemployment benefits.
As discussed in this video, there is wide latitude for usage of these funds by state governors and departments, which includes funding emergency unemployment benefits. States who ended participation early in federal unemployment programs could also use these funds to extend/expand benefits if they choose to do so.
Some claimants may be eligible for State Extended Benefits , but after September 4th all claimants must have a regular UI claim to continue receiving benefits. See more in these state specific unemployment pages.

Appeals Process & Deadlines
If you disagree with a decision on your PUA claim, you must appeal in writing within 14 calendar days from the date we mail you the Determination Notice. The date mailed is located on the top of the Determination Notice form, and the last day you can file an appeal is at the bottom of the form. If the fourteenth day falls on a federal or state holiday, you have until the next business day to file your appeal.

- Through Sept. 4, keep filing for weeks that you want to receive benefits. If your normal certification is after Sept. 4, to be paid for that week you need to certify on your regularly scheduled day and time.
Watch for – and respond to – future messages
- If you are affected by the end of the Federal pandemic programs, we will send you information in your MiWAM account or by mail. Respond to any of our requests for information. Even if you have stopped claiming benefits or found a job, we might still need to contact you. If there are additional changes to your account, you’ll receive a notice with information about how you can meet the deadline to protest or make an appeal. Are There Other Relief Programs Available
Enhanced unemployment benefits are no longer available, but there are other COVID-19 relief programs that you can lean on right now for help.
- Ask your mortgage lender about COVID-19 forbearance if you own a home and cant cover your mortgage payments. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.
- If youre struggling to pay rent, start a dialogue with your landlord and check out these rent-relief resources. Some states are still offering utility assistance, too.
- Student loan payments and interest are on pause through Jan. 31. Take advantage of these upcoming months to save any money that typically goes toward your student loans.
- If youre struggling to cover the cost of child care, you may get assistance through local and state programs.
- If you cant afford groceries, you may be able to qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , which is commonly referred to as food stamps. There are also food assistance programs specific to children, women, and seniors.
- Talk to your credit card issuers and lenders to see if you can lower your interest rate, settle your debt, or qualify for any pandemic-related relief or forbearance programs.
- You may qualify to receive Child Tax Credit payments of up to $3,600 per eligible child. Theyre intended to help parents cover the costs of raising children, but there are no restrictions on what families can do with the money. Becoming A Member Of An Unemployment Insurance Fund
You can become a member of an unemployment insurance fund if you are at least 18 years of age, have more than 2 years left before you reach your retirement age, and reside in Denmark.
Persons under the age of 18 can also join an unemployment insurance fund, if they have completed a vocational education of at least 18 months.
In order to become a member of an unemployment insurance fund, you must actively contact the unemployment insurance fund of which you want to be a member and apply for a membership.
When applying for the membership, you must choose between full-time insurance and part-time insurance. The full-time insurance costs more, but you will receive more in unemployment benefits if you become unemployed.
You have to meet a number of conditions to be entitled to Danish unemployment benefits.
You must:
- Have been a member of an unemployment insurance fund for at least 1 year
- Be registered as a jobseeker at your local job center from the first day you are available to the labour market.
- Have received a certain income for the past 3 years at least DKK 243.996 / 246.924 if you are full-time insured, and at least DKK 162.660 / 164.616 if you are part-time insured.
- Be available for the labour market. This means, among other things, that you must apply for and be able to take over work with the notice of a day.
- Have a complete and approved CV no later than 2 weeks after you have registered as unemployed at the job center.

Contact Your Local Legislators
Some lawmakers, economists and advocates have spent months making the case to extend pandemic UI as the delta variant caused Covid caseloads to rise and job market recovery to slow.
But much of the grassroots advocacy that helped spur previous extensions didn’t see enough momentum make it to Congress this time around.
By August, the Biden administration called on states to use emergency coronavirus funds to provide additional benefits to millions of Americans who remain out of work across the country. But the majority of state labor departments confirmed they have no intention of extending or providing additional benefits on their own.
ExtendPUA has since added to its advocacy resources ways people can contact their state legislators to urge them to provide more financial and career support to unemployed constituents.
Many worker advocacy groups, including ExtendPUA, Unemployed Action and Unemployed Workers United are also putting pressure on policymakers to institute more long-term systemic reform to cover more workers and put in automatic stabilizers, like the unemployment rate, to trigger federal relief rather than letting lawmakers choose calendar dates. Labor organizations have also to include federal and state policies in its next reconciliation package to extend aid and strengthen UI systems overall.

After your claim is filed and accepted, the state of Florida requires that you go through a waiting week during which no benefits will be paid to you. Overall, it will take about three to four weeks for you to receive your first payment. You can receive benefits for anywhere between 12 and 23 weeks depending on Floridas current unemployment rate.
Benefits will vary for each claimant and will be based on earnings from your base period. Your base period is based on the first four completed quarters within the past 18 months.

Eviction Protection After September 30 2021
To avoid eviction for unpaid rent after September 30, 2021, you must apply for rent relief. Your landlord cannot evict you if youâve applied and are waiting to find out if youâre eligible. This protection lasts until March 31, 2022.
If you get a notice from your landlord demanding rent payment, make sure you apply within 15 days.
If you owe rent and do not apply for rent relief, your landlord can evict you. Your landlord must apply for rent relief before they can evict you for unpaid rent.
Unemployment Insurance In Denmark
You are, as a rule, subject to the legislation in the EU/EEA Member State in which you work.
If you are working in Denmark, you are generally subject to Danish national legislation. This means that you must be insured against unemployment in Denmark. If you are subject to Danish national legislation you will not be insured against unemployment in another EU/EEA Member State, because you can only be subject to the legislation of on EU/EEA Member State.
The Danish unemployment insurance system is a voluntary insurance scheme. This means that you are not automatically insured against unemployment when working in Denmark.
There are several unemployment insurance funds in Denmark. Some of them only admit people within one or more specific professions, while others admit persons from all professions.
It is also possible to be a member of an unemployment insurance fund if you are self-employed.

Lawsuits In Other States
Meanwhile, unemployed workers in Ohio filed a lawsuit earlier this month arguing that their state officials should do the same. The state canceled only the $ 300 weekly benefit at the end of June. The plaintiffs ask the judge to order the resumption of the supplement.
In Oklahoma, a lawsuit filed on behalf of an unemployed resident argues that Republican Governor Kevin Stitt did not have the authority to terminate the programs. Also, state law requires officials to guarantee federal benefits for unemployed workers.
The unemployed in Texas have also filed a lawsuit against Republican Gov. Greg Abbott for ending benefits on June 26, arguing that he does not have the authority to do so.

Florida unemployment eligibility and payments depend on when you have become out of work, and when you file your claim. If you quit your job, you are not automatically denied state of Florida unemployment benefits. But you must show good cause for why you did quit, such as harassment or job conflicts.
- If you were discharged from your job, you could be denied benefits if it was due to the failure of a drug test, you stole or damaged your employers property, or your job performance was substandard.
- If you receive severance pay or a pension, it may impact your benefits both in the short term and the long term.
- Life issues such as childcare, travel issues, health problems and so forth may prevent you from actively seeking and accepting work which could also negatively impact your ability to draw benefits.
You Were Not Eligible If You:
- Were receiving paid sick leave or other paid leave benefits, including benefits from the Paycheck Protection Program . However, if you were being paid for less than your customary work week you might have been eligible for reduced PUA. Any paid leave you received must have met Disaster Unemployment Assistances income restrictions.
- Could telework with pay. However, if you were working fewer hours than you did before the pandemic you might have been eligible for reduced PUA if you met DUAs income restrictions.
- Were an essential worker and continued to work. Quitting work without good cause in an attempt to get PUA benefits is fraud.
- You and your employment were no longer affected by COVID-19.

Is It Too Late To Apply For Unemployment Insurance
If you’ve been laid off or furloughed, you can apply for unemployment benefits in your state. Once the state approves your claim, you can apply to receive whatever state benefits you’re entitled to. Because states cover 30% to 50% of a person’s wages, there isn’t a single sum you could expect on a national basis. Each state’s unemployment insurance office provides information to file a claim with the program in the state where you worked. Some claims may be filed in person, by phone or online, so it’s best to contact your state’s office directly.
Eligibility criteria vary from state to state, but the general rule is that you should apply if you’ve lost your job or been laid off through no fault of your own, including if it was due directly or indirectly to the pandemic. You can check on your state’s requirements here. In February, the Department of Labor updated its unemployment eligibility requirements to include people who refused to return to work due to unsafe coronavirus standards.
As for self-employed workers and freelancers who are losing PUA coverage, some online groups are calling to extend pandemic unemployment programs through the crisis and offer more information.
