Starting this Sunday, Wisconsin residents receiving unemployment compensation will be required to follow the states work-search procedure in order to keep receiving benefits.
In a 6-4 vote along party lines, the Legislatures Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules ended an emergency rule that has suspended the work-search requirement since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The committees action is final.
With the search requirement reinstated, jobless people collecting unemployment insurance will have to report four work-search actions each week that they file an unemployment insurance claim with the Department of Workforce Development , which manages the UI system.
People claiming unemployment insurance must register and complete a resume at theJobCenterofWisconsin.com website maintained by DWD, the agency announced Wednesday afternoon. A claimant who falls short of four qualifying work-search activities in a week could be denied that weeks UI payment. Denials can also be retroactive, forcing UI recipients to repay funds that they received.
Business lobbyists have been urging the state to reinstate the work search requirement, as have Republican lawmakers, complaining that it was needed to help ensure everyone who is able to work actively seeks a job.

The first part of UI eligibility has to do with your employment history: Have you spent the last 15 months or so working for an employer that pays Wisconsin unemployment tax? If so, you could be eligible for UI.

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation
Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation is a supplement to weekly unemployment insurance that increases a recipients’ weekly benefits. Earlier in the pandemic the supplement was $600 a week, but in the second round of federal relief the supplement dropped to $300 a week.
With the signing of the American Rescue Plan, the $300 weekly supplement will continue through the week ending Sept. 4 in Wisconsin. That means the supplement will be added on top of recipients’ weekly state-level benefits, which average about $290 a week.
In the second round of federal relief, the $300 FPUC supplement was set to expire the week ending March 14. It remains unclear if Wisconsinites will experience a delay in receiving the continued $300 weekly supplement, and if so, how long that delay will last.

The state of Wisconsin unemployment department issues payments either by direct deposit into your bank account or by loading funds on to a Visa prepaid debit card.

How Long Will The Covid

Always file your weekly claim certificate within 14 days at the end of the calendar week for which you are claiming. Always remember you cannot file a claim for a particular week till it has ended.

What If My Employer Contests My Unemployment Claim
If your employer believes it had good cause to terminate you, it may file a response stating why you should not get benefits. The unemployment office makes an initial determination, usually within a week or two, based on your application and the employers response. When your employer challenges your application for unemployment compensation, you should consult the laws of your state to learn the procedural deadlines and other requirements. If the unemployment office determines that you are not entitled to receive benefits, you can appeal that determination. A hearing will then be held, which can be months after the appeal is filed. A Referee will question the parties and witnesses to make a determination on the claimants right to benefits. If you show at the hearing that you were fired without good cause, you will be entitled to back benefits, but only for those weeks in which you filed an application for benefits.
People often believe that when they are initially denied benefits, re-applying every week is useless or unnecessary. This is not true. If you plan to appeal the denial of benefits, you must continue to file requests or applications for benefits and meet all of the other requirements for obtaining benefits.
