How Are Attached Claims Handled

Floridians denied state unemployment pay do not need to reapply for CARES Act benefits

An employer may file an attached claim only if the employer has a positive balance in its UI account. If an employer does not have a positive balance, it must pay DES an amount equal to the amount necessary to bring the employers negative balance to at least zero. After this happens, there are other restrictions with which the employer must comply:

  • An employer may file an attached claim for an employee only once per year and
  • The period of partial unemployment for which the claim is filed may not exceed six consecutive weeks and
  • The employer must also pay DES an amount equal to the full cost of unemployment benefits payable to the employee under the attached claim before the attached claim is filed.

Maximum Number of Weeks: 20Maximum Benefits Payable will Equal the least of:20 x WBA or 1/4 of Base Period wages

  • Why has the maximum number of potential UI weeks been changed?

The Georgia Legislature passed House Bill 347 which changes the calculation method to determine the maximum number of weeks to be based upon the adjusted statewide unemployment rate in use at the time the regular UI claim is filed. The change became effective July 1, 2012.

  • Is everyone eligible for the maximum number of weeks?

No. The individuals base period wages are used to determine the maximum benefits payable which may or may not qualify an individual for the maximum number of weeks. The maximum benefits payable to an individual in a benefit year is the least of the maximum number of weeks times the weekly benefit amount or one-fourth of the base period wages.

  • How can I determine what unemployment rate is being used to establish my claim?

An Unemployment Benefit Determination is mailed to claimants when an initial claim is filed on or after July 1, 2012. The determination will provide the rate for your claim filing period. The current rate for a specified claim filing period may also be obtained by contacting UI Customer Service at 404-232-3001 or 1-877-709-8185.

How Is My Weekly Benefit Amount Determined

Unemployment pay extended 13 weeks for those who have exhausted benefits

Your weekly benefit amount is the amount of money you may receive each week. This is calculated by dividing your total of wages in the last two quarters by 52. Direct Deposit Of Unemployment Insurance Payments

The Hawaii Unemployment Insurance Division offers unemployed workers the choice to have UI benefits direct deposited into their checking or savings accounts. You can have your UI benefits electronically deposited into your account as long as your financial institution participates in the direct deposit program.

What is Direct Deposit?Direct Deposit is the electronic transfer of your Unemployment Insurance payment into your checking or savings account at your bank, credit union or savings and loan through a system called the Automated Clearing House network. Your financial institution must be a member of the ACH network in order for you to receive UI payments by Direct Deposit.

How long does it take after I enroll?Once entered into the system, direct deposit should begin the next time you claim benefits.

When can I expect my payment to be deposited into my account? After filing your weekly claim for benefits and having met all the eligibility requirements, payments will generally be available three business days after payment has been posted to your account. Payments are not transmitted on state, federal, banking holidays or weekends.

If there is a problem with your direct deposit account and benefits are returned because they cannot be deposited, we will temporarily stop direct deposit and will contact you.

Will I get a receipt and filing schedule in the mail? No. You must log onto your web account in order to view your payment information and filing schedule.

How Long Is It Taking For Payments To Be Issued

In most cases, once you have successfully completed the initial claim process, you must certify for benefits each week thereafter in order to be paid . If, based on your answers to the certification questions, you are eligible for benefits that week, typically you should receive your benefits on the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. Due to the volume of claims currently going through the unemployment system, in limited circumstances, some payments for successfully certified claims may not arrive until Thursday.

First payments may take a little longer. If you have selected direct deposit as your method of payment, you may not receive your first payment until after 9 days from the date of requesting this payment method.

Note: When the payment method is labeled as “PreNote Stage,” this is the time for the banks to authenticate the direct deposit information. If you have selected debit card, you should receive the debit card in the mail in approximately 10 days. Once you receive and activate your debit card, you will have access to your first payment.
