The Division of Unemployment Insuranceâs website and call centers are currently experiencing an unprecedented volume of users due to COVID-19. This may result in longer than usual wait times. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during these uncertain times.

Please be assured that Maryland does not have a waiting week like many other states do. No matter when or how they file, Marylanders become eligible for benefits starting the day after they separated from employment. Your payment will be backdated to the date you became unemployed, not when your claim was processed. If you are determined to be eligible, you will be paid for all benefits due.

Temporary Federal Pandemic Ui Programs End On September 4 2021

The temporary, federal unemployment insurance programs , Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation , Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation , and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation Program will expire the week ending Saturday, September 4, 2021. No payments of PUA, FPUC, PEUC, or MEUC benefits will be made for any weeks of unemployment ending after September 4, 2021, even if you have a PUA or PEUC balance in your BEACON portal.

Processing of Claims for Weeks Ending on or Before September 4 Claims that include weeks of eligibility that end on or before September 4 will be processed even after the federal programs expire. Claimants will receive benefits for all weeks they are determined to be eligible for, even if a determination of eligibility occurs after September 4. If you are waiting to receive an eligibility determination for any of these four federal programs, the Department will ensure that you receive all payments owed to you for those weeks.

Extension to File PUA Claims Until October 6, 2021, the Department will accept new initial claims for PUA benefits for weeks of unemployment ending between December 12, 2020, and September 4, 2021. Claimants are only eligible for PUA benefits for weeks they were unemployed or partially unemployed because of an approved COVID-19 related reason.

Unemployment Benefits Delayed This Week Due To End Of Fiscal Year Holiday

WICHITA, Kan. – If you are on unemployment with the state of Kansas due to COVID-19, you should expect to see delays on your payments this week.

The Kansas Department of Labor said last week on social media that the delays are due to the end of the fiscal year and the Independence Day holiday.

Bill Lindsay, whos been on unemployment with the stat since March, says its been up uphill battle with the unemployment system during this time.

What does the fourth of July have to do with anything since its on a weekend this year? said Lindsay.

KDOL also said claims processed on June 29 will pay out on July 2, and payments processed on June 30 will pay out on July 6.

Lindsay says being on unemployment hasnt been easy.

When youre expecting that money, when basically your last check was in March, and the benefits arent there, said Lindsay. Its really been a struggle.

A spokesperson with the governors office released this statement.

The Department of Labor has been proactively messaging the holiday payment schedule for the past week on their website and on their social media. Unemployment weekly claims processed on June 29 will pay out on July 2. Unemployment weekly claims processed on June 30 will pay out on July 6. Governor Kelly recognizes the need to get payments made and the Department of Labor is working to quickly disperse unemployment benefits to the many Kansans currently unemployed due to COVID-19.

Reapplying For Unemployment Insurance Benefits

If you are not able to file your weekly claim certification this week, please check your BEACON portal to see if you have an âApply for Benefitsâ button. If you have this button, there could be several reasons including, but not limited to:

  • You did not apply for benefits last week,
  • Your benefit year has expired , or
  • Your monetary eligibility needs to be redetermined.

Even if your account is active and you have a balance, if you have an âApply for Benefitsâ button, then you need to re-apply for benefits to be able to file your weekly certification as required by Maryland unemployment law and federal program rules.

If you wish to re-apply for benefits, you should access your BEACON portal from an internet browser, click on the âApply for Benefitsâ link on your home page, and follow the steps. You cannot complete this process from the MD Unemployment for Claimants Mobile App.

Reminder: Claimants have through Saturday, June 12 to file their weekly certification for the week. If you have successfully filed your weekly certification this week, please ignore this message. There are no issues with the BEACON system.

Unemployment insurance benefits are subject to federal and state income tax. If you collected unemployment insurance benefits in 2020, you will need the I.R.S. 1099-G tax form to complete your 2020 federal and state tax returns. Please note that when you completed your initial claim application, you chose whether to have any taxes withheld from your weekly benefit amount. If you chose not to withhold any taxes, then you will be required to pay the appropriate taxes on the total benefits received when you pay your taxes.

Marylandâs Division of Unemployment Insurance has issued a 1099-G tax form to all claimants that received unemployment insurance benefits during the calendar year 2020 based on the delivery preference chosen in their BEACON portal.

All claimants will be able to immediately access their 1099-G tax form by visiting their BEACON portal and selecting Correspondences from âYour Options.â Select âSearchâ to display all Correspondences and select â1099â to view. If you selected the U.S. Mail as your preferred method of delivery, then you will also receive a 1099-G tax form in the mail.

To be eligible for holiday pay, employee must be in pay status on the normal workday immediately preceding and the normal workday immediately following the day and date on which the holiday is observed.

An employee who is required to work on any of these days will be granted compensatory time off at the mutual convenience of the employer and employee. If the holiday falls on a normal day off, an alternative compensatory day will be granted. Cash payments shall be made only in the instance of departmental policy established in conformance with Chapter 11, Section 1, of;State of Maine Civil Service Rules.

On Sunday, July 4, Maryland LABOR reinstated the standard active search for work requirement for all claimants receiving regular unemployment insurance benefits. Claimants receiving benefits under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation federal programs must meet the active search for work requirement beginning Sunday, July 18, 2021.

All claimants must actively search for work by completing at least three valid reemployment activities each week, which must include at least one job contact. Claimants must satisfy the active search for work requirement to maintain their eligibility for UI benefits.

Valid reemployment activities are intended to help a claimant become reemployed and remove potential barriers to employment. Qualifying activities include, but are not limited to: activities completed through the Maryland Workforce Exchange , such as setting up a virtual recruiter or completing a skills self-assessment; attending networking events; creating a résumé in MWE; and attending employment events held by the Maryland Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning .
