If you were denied unemployment benefits, you may file an appeal online. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity refers to those seeking benefits as Claimants. Claimants, employers, and authorized representatives may appeal a decision that was not made in their favor.
You must wait until after a determination is mailed or delivered to file an appeal. The determination will also contain instructions on how to file your appeal after a denial of benefits.
File Your Florida Unemployment Claim
Within one week of becoming unemployed, you should begin the claims process to receive your Reemployment Assistance benefits. The date your application is finished determines when you will begin receiving benefits. Claims always begin with the Sunday prior to the completion of the application. For example, an application completed on Wednesday will take effect on the Sunday before that Wednesday.
All claims in Florida must be completed online. The process should take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.

Once your claim is filed, you will receive a confirmation notice that your claim has been received. You must request benefit payment no later than seven days from your scheduled report date. If your claim is accepted, it will take two to four weeks to receive your first payment. The week you file your claim is a “waiting week” during which no benefits are paid.

Coronavirus Unemployment Benefits No Longer Available
As of mid-August 2021, more than 11 million people were collecting some form of unemployment. This figure included the millions of employees who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and the steps state and local governments have taken to contain it. It included millions of gig workers, contractors, and self-employed people who were collecting unemployment benefits through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. And, it included millions who were receiving temporary federal benefits under the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program because they were still unemployed when their state benefits ran out.
Court Rejects Lawsuit Attempting To Reinstate Federal Unemployment Benefits
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A court in Leon County rejected a lawsuit that sought to reinstate federal unemployment benefits in Florida, which ended in June.
A judge in Tallahassee heard arguments last week regarding the suit, which was originally filed in Broward County.
The lawsuit alleges the premature end to federal CARES Act benefits, which provide an additional $300 in weekly unemployment, was done for purely partisan and political purposes.
Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith denied the plaintiffs motion for a temporary injunction. In the ruling, Judge Smith stated:
- The defendants, including Gov. Rob DeSantis, did not violate Chapter 443 concerning reemployment assistance and
- The motion was filed too late, as the FPUC program would end by the time Florida could opt back into it
The plaintiffs can still appeal Judge Smiths ruling.
The Department of Economic Opportunity released the following statement on the ruling:
The court ruling issued today affirms that the State of Floridas successful Return to Work Initiative and subsequent withdrawing participation from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program was the right decision legally and has proven to increase employment and workforce participation.
The $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance payments were discontinued in June, leaving unemployed Floridians living off a maximum of $275 per week.

It should be pretty simple. There will either be a questionnaire or a field for you to declare the severance payment. If its a lumpsum, you can claim it right away.
I was sent letter from fraud department and claim was locked for verification. I tried to verify no success. I have tried calling 400 times all 3 numbers. I sent a letter to Tallahassee for help no answer. I have submitted a new application which went through but now it starts in August and no payment for June-august. I need help please.

That being said, the department, the governor, the secretary, weâre not trying to delay this case at all. We are happy to move forward as expeditiously as your honor would prefer, with caveat we believe weâre in front of the wrong court.â

The weekly payment amount you receive during unemployment will vary from person to person. The only way to be sure of your benefit amount is to submit a claim.
The state determines your weekly benefit payments based on your previous earnings during employment. In 2020, you can receive a maximum of $275 per week for 12 weeks. You are entitled to a maximum benefit amount of $3,300.
You will continue to receive Reemployment Assistance weekly for up to 12 weeks. When you secure a job, the payments will stop. However, working part-time or temporarily does not necessarily end the benefits.

When Will Your Unemployment Claim Be Processed How Many Weeks Can You Receive Benefit Payments
After your claim is filed and accepted, the state of Florida requires that you go through a waiting week during which no benefits will be paid to you.
