Floridians: Use This Website To File Unemployment Claims

TALLAHASSEE Any Floridian who hasnt been able to successfully apply for unemployment benefits yet should now use this new website to sign up: www.floridajobs.org/raapplication.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, which operates the states broken unemployment system, announced the new website on Wednesday night.

Unlike the old site, the new site is mobile-friendly, allowing people to apply on their phone or tablet. While early reviews show that applicants have not been met with the error messages and other glitches plaguing the old site, the new site went down within a few hours of its launch.

Its official confirms that new website is basically a glorified Google Form & your info needs to be then migrated by state employees into CONNECT.PLZ RT bcuz we dont want ppl to think their application is complete. There are still more steps left!

Rep. Anna V. Eskamani

The new site is essentially a mobile-friendly electronic form and not a substitute for the old site. State workers are taking the electronic forms and entering them into the old site. Applicants will still have to use the old site to modify their application, however.

The state on Wednesday also rolled out a mobile-friendly version of its coronavirus financial aid page, which has links to frequently asked questions and the paper applications for individuals and businesses. The new mobile-friendly site is www.floridajobs.org/COVID-19.

What Are The Florida Unemployment Benefits Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfill several monetary and non-monetary eligibility criteria to be approved for Florida reemployment assistance benefits. Your previous earnings, reasons for unemployment and work availability will be examined to decide if you’re eligible. Successful applicants will also need to meet weekly criteria to continue receiving benefits.

    Waiting Week Waiver Expiration

Under normal circumstances, a person would have to wait one week after applying for unemployment benefits before becoming eligible to receive them. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order during the pandemic waiving this rule in an effort to speed up benefit distribution.

That waiver ended on June 26, 2021.

What To Wait For After You File Your Unemployment Claim

About a week after applying, you will obtain a letter stating if you are eligible and, if so, how much you will collect weekly as your benefit. In case you do not qualify for benefits, the letter will clarify why and tell you what you must do if you wish to appeal the verdict.

Once you have qualified to collect benefits, you must claim your weekly benefits every 2 weeks. The initial letter you obtain will give you a date on which you must call or go online and answer a few questions about your continued eligibility. Failure to reclaim your benefits every two weeks will hold up the payment of benefits to you.

Moreover, in the state of Florida, the first week of unemployment is not considered eligible for unemployment benefits. As such, your first date to claim your weekly benefits will be 3weeks after you initially claimed unemployment benefits, and then the benefits paid out will only be for 2 weeks.
