How Much Will My Weekly Payment Be

Your weekly benefit amount is shown on your Monetary Determination of Eligibility. Your WBA is based on total wages you earned in the base period.

You can determine your weekly benefit amount by dividing your total base period wages by 52. Then, multiply that number by 0.47. Your weekly benefit amount should be rounded down to the next whole dollar amount, up to a maximum of $390.00

For example, if your total wages in the base period was $30,000 then your WBA would be: $30,000 ÷ 52 = $576.92 × 0.47 = $271

Waiting For Unemployment Back Pay We Got Answers From The New York State Department Of Labor

BUFFALO, N.Y. Many of you have reached out to 2 On Your Side asking about your unemployment benefits and the back pay you still havent received. Wednesday we got answers for you from the New York State Department of Labor.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has said several times that people will get their back pay, but some people have been waiting for more than two months, and they need to pay their bills.

Our response rate is much, much better than any other state, Cuomo said in a press conference on Wednesday. But if you havent gotten your check, none of that matters. I understand that. The good news is youre not losing any money because when you get your check, itll be for the full amount, but you still dont have the check today. All that matters to you is you want that check in your hand today because you need it. I get that. We have made tremendous progress in a very short period of time. But again, no one could have seen this coming. If no one would have built a website and office apparatus to handle millions of calls when you never expected it to happen. But we have reduced dramatically the wait time and the response time.

Wayne Shattuck is waiting for that check. He works for a school and has been unemployed since mid-March. This week, he got some money, but he still hasnt gotten his back pay. His wife is also unemployed.

Shattuck would like his back pay and does not know when he will be able to return to work since he works for a school.

Eligible For Pua But Do I Get Back Pay And The $300 Fpuc From The Date I Lost My Job Or From The Week That I Filed

This article was updated following the latest round of Enhanced UI extensions and $300 FPUC Payments until September, 6th, 2021. The legislation for the 2021 UI extensions limited back dating for new or initial claims to March 14th, 2021 under the latest ARP extension. Further the $300 FPUC weekly supplementary payments would only be over the extension period for weeks you have an active claim that you certify for.

Anthony posted this comment following his recent eligibility for PUA, Hi guys I just found out about the PUA. I filed for regular unemployment and was denied. I got a email stating that I was eligible for the PUA and today was my first day to claim it. I claimed for 2 weeks no problem. My question is about the $300 enhanced unemployment and if I get back pay from the date I lost my job or do I just start getting the 300 from the week that I filed?

Because you can only get the supplementary FPUC payment while you are getting some form other other unemployment and you need to certify weekly for enhanced unemployment benefits, you can only go back to the date you filed your claim. This should in most cases be backdated to when you lost your job, because one week waiting periods have been waived to get the pandemic unemployment benefits.

Will I Get Back Payments Automatically Applied Or Manual Claim/actions Required

Nevada unemployment benefits delayed, but back pay promised

Once states are able to update their IT systems to pay the extended PEUC and PUA benefits they are automatically adding the extra weeks to eligible claimant accounts. One the claimant claims or certifies for the relevant weeks they should get payment for current and past eligible weeks.

However due to the complexities, unique cases or system limitations some states area asking claimants to take manual actions to get back payments. For example in Pennsylvania , claimants on PEUC are being requested to email the UC Help Desk for backdating retroactive weeks. Similarly in IDES in IL is asking claimants to call their call center representatives to discuss backdating their claims

So essentially if you cannot claim your past weeks online or you have received a current/recent week payment but no back payments for prior eligible weeks or any official notification of delays, then you will likely have to take a manual action via your state UI agency to get your payment.

Calculating Your Biweekly Payment Day

The following table shows how to calculate your next filing day. For example, if you requested payment on a Monday, you should request your next payment on the second Monday after that. You can also request payment during the open filing days in the same week as your designated filing day.

Example 1 Normal Payment Request Schedule: You request payment on a Monday during your first week. You would SKIP the next Monday in week 2, and then request payment on the Monday after that in week 3. Then you would skip the Monday in week 4 and request payment again on the next Monday.

Example 2 You Miss One of Your Filing Days: You request payment on a Tuesday during your first week. You skip the next Tuesday in week 2, but then miss the Tuesday after that in week 3. To stay on schedule, you would request payment on any of our open filing days during week 3. You would then skip the Tuesday in week 4, and request payment again on the next Tuesday after that.

When you request payment on Tele-Serv, the program will tell you the next date to request payment. Please make note of the date and mark it on your calendar.

How Long After Winning An Unemployment Appeal Do You Receive Your Back Pay

Unemployment compensation is a benefit available to most workers when they separate from their jobs due to circumstances beyond their control. Claiming it can be a process, however, and its not without its challenges.

You must have enough earned income during prescribed time periods to qualify, and some workers can fall through the cracks and be denied even when they do technically qualify. States have appeal systems in place to give them recourse.

If Your Appeal Is Appealed

Unfortunately, this is not always a one-and-done process. You might win your appeal only to receive notice that your employer is again appealing the decision so your successful unemployment appeal can be reversed. You usually have the right to do the same if your appeal is denied.

The subsequent hearing might take place before a different judge or panel. For example, a second appeal goes to the Board of Review in New Jersey. This state is particularly generous about the appeals process. You can reach out a third time to the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court if the second review doesnt go your way.

I Would Rather Stay On Unemployment Is It My Choice

I was laid off, I am now collecting unemployment and my employer applied for the PPP loan AFTER they laid me off. I am actually making a lot more money on unemployment, so if they get the loan and want to bring me back, am I required to take my job back?

Answer from Nick Oberheiden:

If an employee has been laid off, he or she cannot be forced to accept a new position with the company. However, in order to remain eligible for unemployment benefits, a former employee must be available to work, which means that he or she must be actively looking for employment and not suffering from a disability or other medical condition that impairs his or her ability to work. If a former employee declines an offer for a position that he or she is capable of filling, or if the company hires a replacement employee, then the former employees unemployment eligibility could be terminated.

It is also important for former employees to keep in mind that the additional $600 per week they may be receiving under the federal CARES Act expires on July 31, 2020. Once this expires, unemployment benefits will return to their normal below-wage level.

After 17 years, Rick Snow announced that he would be closing his business, Maine Indoor Karting, for good. He had shut down temporarily on March 16, as concern about coronavirus was growing. A loan from the Paycheck Protection Program paid some of his employees even though they weren’t working. But rent in his Scarborough, Maine, facility was still $20,000 a month. “We couldn’t survive at the current rent with no business to take us through the summer,” Snow says.

Snow needed some of his employees to return and help dismantle the go-kart track and prepare to leave the building. Most of them did, but one said he had a long-planned boating trip he wanted to take. When he didn’t show up to work, Snow reminded him that he’d be on the schedule for Monday. The employee called to say he’d be out Monday, and on Tuesday said his father had been evicted and he needed to help him move. On Wednesday, Snow sent the wayward worker a note saying he’d officially abandoned his job. The man immediately replied saying he hadn’t meant to do that.

The employee was collecting unemployment, and Maine’s governor had issued an order temporarily banning evictions, so that evicted-dad excuse wasn’t valid. “There’s some fishiness in the whole process,” Snow says. “But based on what employees can get on unemployment, the incentive is not to come back to work.”

Many Americans are still waiting to receive their unemployment checks. Having lived through this with a relative, I know how hard it is and how desperate and frustrated you can get while you wait and wait and wait. My relative, Mike, tried calling his state unemployment office, and waited 6 hours only to be disconnected as they transferred him to the person who could help him. He would try to call some days and could not even get in the queue to wait on hold. The message just said, the unemployment department has been overwhelmed with calls, try the website or call back. He felt so powerless.

One day, I listened to a radio show with state and federal legislators answering questions. Able to ask them a question on the air, I asked about the unemployment problem my relative, and many others were experiencing. My local State Representative said, call my office, and I can help you solve this issue. So Mike did just that, and they reached unemployment and got Mike connected to a lady at unemployment who solved his filing issues. Five days later, Mike got a large check for all the past-due unemployment monies due to him.

I thought most of the unpaid unemployment issues had been resolved by now, and states were doing a better job. Then two days ago, I got this email from Joe, a Baby Boomer, who is self-employed. He wrote to say:

While the $600 FPUC program has now ended , with no formal extension in place due to a Congressional stalemate, it was been replaced by the Lost Wages Assistance unemployment benefits program. You can see this article for details on the now expired temporary LWA $300 weekly payment that President Trump approved in mid-August via executive order. Most states have made all payments under this program including retroactive payments.

So if you are still getting at least $100 of benefits under current and enhanced benefit programs then you should continue to certify on weekly or bi-weekly basis to receive current and retroactive $300 weekly payments. Both the payments are being administered and paid by state unemployment agencies. So you would need to contact them if you are having issues with these payments.
