Michigan Unemployment Offices To Reopen After Being Closed For More Than A Year
An unemployed worker looks at the State of Michigan unemployment site Wednesday, April 29, 2020, in Detroit. AP
Michigans unemployment offices have been closed for more than 14 months, but will reopen no later than July 12.
The Unemployment Insurance Agency is still working on reopening details, said spokesperson Lynda Robinson. It hasnt been determined if itll be limited to appointments only like Secretary of State offices or if walk-ins will be allowed.
Hours of operation are still being decided, too, Robinson said.
The UIAs current online and phone services will still be available after the offices reopen, Robinson said. Claimants have clamored for offices to reopen since they closed last March, as many have waited hours on hold to reach an employee.

UIA officials have argued for months that reopening the offices would be bad not only would it expose people to COVID-19, but it would also be less efficient.
Theres going to be a productivity hit if we open the branch offices, former UIA Director Steve Gray said in October, before resigning two weeks later. I remember back in 2008 and 2009 when we had the lines around the block for the offices when they were open. A lot of people would have to get there by 8 a.m. to get a place in line. We couldnt just help everybody. Wed have to cut off the number of people.
Work search requirement begins May 30

Gov Newsom Unveils His Plan To Lift Californias Stay
The state is also setting up a portal through the EDD to expedite unemployment benefits to the self-employed, gig workers and independent contractors.
Starting April 28, the agency will have a one-stop shop for benefits through the federal governments Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, according to a news release from the governors office.
The program gives certain individuals up to 39 weeks of unemployment benefits retroactive to Feb. 2 for those impacted by the pandemic, and going through the week ending Dec. 31, 2020.
They too will qualify for the additional $600 payment through July 31.
Newsom explained that the delay is due to the state setting up the benefits in a methodical and thoughtful way that will allow them to go out between 24 and 48 hours, as opposed to the usual 21 days for regular unemployment insurance claims.
The governor also announced some economic aid for undocumented immigrants in the form of a $125 million disaster relief fund, about $75 million of which will come from California taxpayers.
About 150,000 undocumented workers in the state will receive one-time payment of $500, according to the governor.
He said the undocumented population makes up about 10% of the states workforce, with many employed in sectors deemed essential during the crisis, including health care, agriculture and food, and manufacturing. Undocumented workers paid $2.5 billion in state and local taxes last year, he said.

Thoughts On How To Contact Pa Unemployment Office
I work for a school during the school year and I have a seasonal part-time job in the summer months. I recently fractured my ankle and cant work right now. Would I be able to apply for unemployment?
My name is tamara l miller I cant get through through coumpter or phone for a week to reopen my clamed for dec 15th 2016 on
Please let us know the exact nature of the issue. What happens when you call/file online?
When I call the service number, it just rings busy all day long. When I filed my biweekly claim on Christmas, I was never paid that week. I am afraid that I will not get my money this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Because at this point, unemployment owes me quite a bit of money.
It looks like there was an issue with the phone lines during the last week of December 2016.
I hope the issue is sorted now and you were able to contact the Unemployment Office.
I was not able at all. I call all day from 8-4, over 300 times a day and cannot get through at any hour. I will try again this week.
Due to an unprecedented shutdown of at least three call centers in the state, many calls from claimants are going unanswered. We also have strong reasons to believe that there will be a delay in processing claims and this situation is expected to continue for a few more weeks.
Please be patient or visit a local CareerLink office to get faster access to the Claims System by phone.
Temporary Federal Pandemic Ui Programs Ended On September 4 2021
The temporary, federal unemployment insurance programs , Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation , Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation , and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation Program expired the week ending Saturday, September 4, 2021. No payments of PUA, FPUC, PEUC, or MEUC benefits will be made for any weeks of unemployment ending after September 4, 2021, even if you have a PUA or PEUC balance in your BEACON portal.
Processing of Claims for Weeks Ending on or Before September 4 Claims that include weeks of eligibility that end on or before September 4 will be processed even after the federal programs expire. Claimants will receive benefits for all weeks they are determined to be eligible for, even if a determination of eligibility occurs after September 4. If you are waiting to receive an eligibility determination for any of these four federal programs, the Department will ensure that you receive all payments owed to you for those weeks. If claimants receive an eligibility determination for weeks of regular State unemployment insurance ending before September 4, 2021, that allows them to apply for PUA for any of those weeks, they may do so by calling a live claims agent at 667-207-6520.
