SC Works Online Services is Down Due to a Nationwide Outage
South Carolina claimants unemployment benefits unaffected, and agency helps individuals continue to look for work.
Columbia, S.C. Geographic Solutions, Inc. , the vendor that runs the SC Works Online Services portal, is currently experiencing a nationwide outage caused by a cyberattack that impacts websites in multiple states. Due to this ongoing issue, SCWOS job search portal and labor market information pages are currently unavailable, leaving individuals filing for Unemployment Insurance claims unable to conduct their mandatory two work searches per week on the website.
The SC Department of Employment and Workforces MyBenefits Portal is in no way impacted by GSIs outage. It is maintained by a different vendor and claimants therefore are able to file their weekly claims and receive UI benefit payments without any interruptions.
DEW has been in daily contact with the vendor as GSI works around the clock to get the SCWOS job search portal and labor market information pages back online. Our agency has sent claimants emails, social media posts, phone recordings, website alerts, and varied messages since Monday on the status of the SCWOS outage, and we will continue to provide updates to the public through multiple channels. Please continue checking our DEW website for any new notifications.
Windsors Unemployment Rate Remains Highest In Canada Despite Decrease
The jobless rate in Windsor is still the highest in the country, but it has dropped since last month.
Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate in Windsor was 9.2 per cent in October, compared to 10.4 per cent in September.
On a national level, Stats Canada says the economy added 31,000 jobs in October, bringing the national unemployment rate to a pandemic-era low.
Unemployment came in at 6.7 per cent, down from 6.9 per cent in September, to mark the fifth consecutive monthly decline in the rate.
Gains were seen across a number of industries, including the hard-hit retail sector, but offset by declines elsewhere, such as accommodation and food services.
The statistics agency also notes a decline in self-employment, but suggests some of those moved to more permanent and in-demand jobs like in the professional, scientific and technical services sector.
Statistics Canada also says the ranks of Canada’s long-term unemployed, those who have been out of work for six months or more, was little changed in October at almost 380,000.
A portion of this report was first published by The Canadian Press on Nov. 5, 2021.

Covid Recession Pushed Social Security Insolvency Up A Year
Thousands of frustrated Floridians trying to check the status of unemployment claims Friday received a message that the website will be down until Monday morning.
It was another hurdle for hundreds of thousands of Floridians who have lost their jobs because of business closures caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
So many of us are suffering, said John Brenner, a hotel manager who was laid off. We all would rather be working and living our lives. Instead, were feeling the despair of being jobless, combined with the shame that this website makes you feel. And worst of all the site doesnt even work.
While individuals could still submit claims, the website, called CONNECT, wasnt available to people checking on their claim status.
CONNECT is currently processing payments. We apologize for the inconvenience. CONNECT will be available at 8:00 a.m Monday, April 27, the message on the sign-in page said.
For thousands like Brenner whose claims are still pending, the desperation is mounting in a state that has been one of the slowest to process claims and issue payments. The 38-year-old from Plantation said the stress, fear, and sadness of unemployment have impacted everything from his diet to his inability to sleep.
We know that not being able to access the system may cause uncertainty, but these updates are designed to expedite the process for payment, said Department of Economic Opportunity spokeswoman Tiffany Vause in an emailed statement.

Iowa Unemployment Website Remains Down Due To External Outage
DES MOINES, Iowa – The IowaWORKS.gov website is expected to be down in the immediate future.
The outage disrupts weekly unemployment claims and job search processes, but Iowa Workforce Development says that this will not impact unemployment benefit payments.
This unfortunate outage is a problem that our vendor is working hard to fix, and we hope to have the IowaWORKS.gov website back serving Iowans very soon, said Beth Townsend, Director of Iowa Workforce Development.
The outage is disrupting the weekly continuing unemployment claims and jobs search process for claimants. .
Iowa Workforce Development officials say that they are implementing a temporary solution to avoid delays in processing benefits.
- Unemployment claimants should bypass the customary process of reporting work search activities on IowaWORKS.gov and instead go directly to uiclaims.iwd.iowa.gov/weeklyclaims to file their weekly claims.
- Claimants still should report work search activities on the IowaWORKS.gov site once it resumes activity. But for the week of June 26, the failure to do so will not impact the viability of any claim.
Unemployment claimants with questions or concerns about their claims should contact the IWD customer service line at or 1-866-239-0843. A call-back option is also available.
Due to the job search outage, unemployed Iowans are also encouraged to contact their local IowaWORKS centers for assistance or visit third-party job sites for employment opportunities.

Tennessee Unemployment Website Offline 12000 Left Without Payments
Tennessees unemployment website has been offline since Sunday afternoon, leaving those in need with no way to receive payments, officials say.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessees unemployment website has been offline since Sunday afternoon, leaving those in need with no way to receive payments, officials with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development told WVLT News.
The website is where people go to log weekly job search efforts that make them eligible for payment from the state. With the website down, officials said they have no way of getting those payments to people in need.
Approximately 12,000 Tennesseans rely on the unemployment program each week, as well as citizens using the workforce development aspects of Jobs4TN.gov, officials said.
Technical specialists are working on getting the website back up, officials said, and have been working nonstop since Sunday afternoon. However, at this time, there is no word on when the website will be running again.
The Department will distribute benefits as soon as possible, right now there is no timeline as to when that will happen. Once the system is operational, claimants can complete their certifications for any missed weeks, and they will receive a lump sum for any delayed payments, a statement from the TDLWD said. Individuals who need to file a new unemployment claim need to wait for further instructions on how to apply once the system is operational.
