How Can I Apply

Changes are coming to unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania

You should file a claim for unemployment compensation in the first week youre out of work.

Pennsylvanias online application is available 24/7. If youd like to file online, the state offers an interactive tool to help you navigate the process.

You can also file a claim by calling 1-888-313-7284 or by mailing a paper application.

If you communicate only using American Sign Language, you can file an unemployment claim using Pennsylvanias videophone service on Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. Eastern time.

No matter how you file your claim, youll want to have the following information handy:

  • Social Security number
  • Your former employers name, address and phone number
  • First and last day you worked with that employer
  • Reason for leaving your job
  • Bank account information if you want to receive payments by direct deposit
  • Pension or severance package information, if you have them

Be careful that the name you use to file a claim matches the way your name appears on your Social Security card. A mismatch could delay your claim.

What Are Top 10 Highest Paying Cities For Unemployment Jobs In Pennsylvania

Weve identified 10 cities where the typical salary for an Unemployment job is above the average in Pennsylvania. Topping the list is Biglerville, with Hudson and Hometown close behind in second and third. Hometown beats the Pennsylvania average by 20.5%, and Biglerville furthers that trend with another $10,380 above the $41,695.

With these 10 cities paying on average above the average for Pennsylvania, the opportunities for economic advancement by changing locations in the Unemployment jobs category appears to be exceedingly fruitful.

Finally, another factor to consider is the average salary for these top 10 cities varies very little at 9% between Biglerville and Renovo, reinforcing the limited potential for much wage advancement. The possibility of a lower cost of living may be the best factor to use when considering location and salary for an Unemployment role.

Unemployment is much worse than it looks

To receive unemployment benefits you must meet the set of standards set by the PA unemployment laws. There are three main requirements issued by the PA department of unemployment.

Financial Eligibility

The first step towards receiving pa state unemployment benefits is meeting the predetermined financial requirements. After filing a claim you must prove your eligibility to the PA dept of unemployment. Within this, you must give them proof of sufficient earnings during your most recent periods of employment, i.e. your base period.

If they are satisfied with your work history the pa.dept.of unemployment issues a Notice of Financial Determination. This notice declares you either eligible or ineligible. And informs you of the amount of financial assistance the state will provide you with.

Reason for unemployment

The second most important factor in determining your eligibility is your reason for unemployment. If you were fired because of incompetence, irregularity, ineffectiveness, poor work ethics, misconduct, violation of company policy, drug or alcohol possession, or falsification of official documents you are not eligible to receive pa.uc benefits. Additionally, you also do not qualify if you participated in a work strike or voluntarily quit your job.

And if you are still facing PA unemployment eligibility issues and are confused about whether or not you qualify call the pa unemployment number for assistance.
