To keep collecting unemployment benefits, you must be able to work, available to work, and looking for employment. If you’re offered a suitable position, you must accept it.
Whether a position is suitable depends on several factors, including your experience and previous earnings, how long you’ve been out of work, and your chances of getting work in your usual occupation..
In Nevada, you will be considered “available” for work only if you don’t have any restrictions preventing you from taking a job immediately, if one is offered. For example, you must be able to make arrangements for childcare and transportation.
You must engage in a good faith search for work, of the sort that a reasonable and prudent person who is anxious to find a job would conduct. Weekly Certification And Maintaining Eligibility
Once your unemployment claim has been approved, you must certify your status on a weekly basis in order to continue to receive benefits. This is to prevent people from receiving benefits even after theyve found new work.
The process of certifying the claim is also known as filing a weekly claim. You can file by telephone or online. You may request permission to file a weekly claim by mail. You must show a compelling reason why you need to file by mail.
If you dont, your unemployment benefits payments may be delayed. The weekly certification process requires you to answer questions meant to determine if you have maintained your eligibility status. The DETR will want to know whether:

You must be totally or partially unemployed through no fault of your own, and you must have earned sufficient wages in your base period . Also, you must be able and available for full-time work.
You can apply online or over the phone by contacting your local Claims Center.
Your weekly benefit amount will be 1/25, or 4%, of your highest quarter earnings. This amount cannot be more than the maximum weekly benefit amount, which is set by law each year, beginning July 1.
The length of time that you will receive benefits is also based on how much you made during the base period, but not more than 26 weeks.
You must continue to file weekly either online or by telephone. Also, you must continue to be able and available for full-time work. You must actively seek employment, while keeping a record of your work search activities . Finally, you must accept suitable work.
Your appeal must be filed within 11 days of the date the decision was mailed to you. You may appeal the decision by sending a letter to the address shown on the decision requesting an appeal. Overpayment Of Unemployment Benefits
Overpayments can be caused by a number of factors, including simple Division error, failure to provide accurate facts about the separation, a reversal by an Appeals Referee or the Board of Review, or information being provided late by the employer that causes the Division to reverse or make changes to a determination.
The Employment Security Division will seek repayment of all overpayments, regardless of who is at fault, but overpayments can be appealed like any other issue.
Pursuant to NRS 612.365, the Division has discretion to waive the unemployment if:

What Is The Base Period For Unemployment In Las Vegas
Almost every state determines your eligibility for unemployment insurance by looking at your work history and earnings during a âbase periodâ.
As we mentioned above, you must have been employed in Nevada during the previous 12 months to be eligible.
But it gets a bit more specific than that with the base period.
Whenever you apply for unemployment, the state will look at your earnings during the previous five calendar quarters .
And then they will count only the earliest four out of those five quarters. So, if you apply for benefits on May 1, 2022, they will look at your income during Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2021.
During those four quarters, you must have earned at least $400 during your biggest income quarter.
You must also meet one of the following two base period requirements to be eligible for unemployment.
Highest income quarter vs. total income
Whatever you earned during your biggest income quarter, your total income during the base period must be one-and-a-half times more.
Letâs say you earned $6,000.00 during Jan 1 – Mar 31, 2021, and thatâs your highest income quarter in 2021. And your base period is all of 2021.
That means that during your entire base period , must earn at least $9,000.
At least three quarters of income
If you didnât earn one-and-a-half times your highest quarter, then you can show that you earned income during at least three of the four quarters in your base period.

What If I Quit My Job Or Got Fired
One of the requirements of unemployment insurance is that you must be out of a job through no fault of your own.
That doesnât mean youâre automatically disqualified if you got fired or if you quit. But there are certain factors to consider.
If you were fired because you were no longer a good fit for the job due to lack of skills or training, then you might still be eligible for benefits.
