Employers pay unemployment taxes, and employees do, too, in a handful of states. Expanded Unemployment In New York During The Covid
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed into law a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill known as the American Rescue Plan .
Under ARP, the $300 per week federal unemployment supplement is extended until September 6, 2021.
The law also extends two unemployment programs originally created by the CARES Act in March 2020: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation .
Under the PUA program, self-employed workersusually excluded from unemployment benefitsare entitled to unemployment if they meet certain criteria. ARP makes PUA benefits available through Labor Day 2021, and increases the maximum duration of these benefits from 50 to 79 weeks.
The PEUC program provides for a federally-funded extension of benefits when state unemployment benefits expire. ARP increases the maximum duration of PEUC benefits from 24 to 53 weeks, with an expiry date of September 4, 2021.

How Much Stimulus Money Can I Get
If you’ve already filed your 2019 taxes, the Internal Revenue Service will use those returns to determine your payment. If not, your 2018 returns will be used to calculate your check.
Individuals with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less will be eligible for a one-time payment of up to $1,200 and $500 for each qualifying child. Those with little or no tax liability also will get $1,200 .
The payments will start to phase out for Americans who earn more than $75,000, or $150,000 for a joint return. The amount you receive will be decreased by 5% of the amount your income exceeds $75,000.

How Long Will I Receive The Additional Weekly Benefit Under The Executive Order
Initially, the bill accounted for 11 weeks of this additional benefit but because of the delay in signing the bill, this may now be 10 weeks. Coronavirus: Congress Passes $300 Per Week Unemployment Supplement
The first program, known as Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation , extends unemployment benefits by an extra 13 weeks when state unemployment payments expire.
The second, called Pandemic Unemployment Assistance , allows the self-employed, including most gig workers and freelancers, to qualify for benefits if they meet certain criteria. Those who cant work because they have Covid-19, are under quarantine, or are caring for a children whose school has closed due to Covid-19 are also eligible for unemployment under PUA.
Both programs close to new claimants on March 14, 2021, and expire for existing claimants on April 5, 2021.

How Much Will I Receive In Weekly Benefits
You can calculate your potential benefits online. Your weekly benefit amount and the number of weeks of entitlement are based on the wages you were paid and the amount of time you worked during your base period. The weekly benefit amount is calculated by dividing the sum of the wages earned during the highest quarter of the base period by 26, rounded down to the next lower whole dollar.
