How Much Will My Weekly Payment Be

3 Important Things to do to Get Your Unemployment Benefits Started After a Layoff

Your weekly benefit amount is shown on your Monetary Determination of Eligibility. Your WBA is based on total wages you earned in the base period.

You can determine your weekly benefit amount by dividing your total base period wages by 52. Then, multiply that number by 0.47. Your weekly benefit amount should be rounded down to the next whole dollar amount, up to a maximum of $390.00

For example, if your total wages in the base period was $30,000 then your WBA would be: $30,000 ÷ 52 = $576.92 × 0.47 = $271

Base Period Defined

Your base period includes the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the week you file an initial claim application for a new benefit year. The last quarter worked is called the lag quarter, and no wages from that quarter count in your base period.

Should I Apply For Ui Benefits Right Away After I Lose My Job

Most states require that you apply for benefits immediately after you lose your job, as your eligibility begins the week in which you file your claim. Claims start on the Sunday of the week an Unemployment Insurance application is submitted so begin sooner rather than later. Generally, if you delay in applying for UI benefits, you will not be allowed to receive benefits for the time prior to your application, even if you would have been eligible for benefits during that time.

In certain circumstances, however, you may want to wait to apply for UI benefits. Here are some of the reasons you might be better off waiting to apply for benefits:

You are not financially eligible for UI because your base period earnings are not sufficient or

You are not eligible for UI because you are not ready, willing, and able to work.

For more information, see our site’s unemployment insurance eligibility page.

What Is The Waiting Period And Why Is It Required

All individuals filing for unemployment are required to serve a one week waiting period per Oklahoma law . The first week individuals file a weekly certification during which all eligibility requirements are met will be considered the waiting period and will have no payments issued. This will not subtract from your total benefit amount.

How To Determine Whether You’re Eligible For Unemployment Insurance

How To Apply For Unemployment Chicago

Unemployment insurance is a program that’s jointly run by the state and federal government, so while the application procedure can vary by state, the overall process and eligibility requirements are more or less the same.

As the US Department of Labor outlines on its website, you will typically qualify for benefits if you:

    • “Are unemployed through no fault of your own. In most states, this means you have to have separated from your last job due to a lack of available work.”
    • “Meet work and wage requirements. You must meet your state’s requirements for wages earned or time worked during an established period of time referred to as a “base period.” “
    • “Meet any additional state requirements. Find details of your own state’s program.”

The Department of Labor has issued guidance to states to allow more flexibility with unemployment insurance during the coronavirus outbreak. That includes allowing states to pay benefits for workers who are quarantined and cannot go to work or workers who leave a job due to a risk of exposure or to care for a family member.

Some restaurants and hotels have put their workers on zero hour schedules and told them they’re not eligible to file for unemployment benefits because they’re not technically laid off. But if you had zero earnings in the prior week and your employer didn’t offer you any hours, you’re likely eligible, according to Andrew Stettner, a senior fellow at The Century Foundation.

    When in doubt? Apply.
