Please be assured that Maryland does not have a waiting week like many other states do. No matter when or how they file, Marylanders become eligible for benefits starting the day after they separated from employment. Your payment will be backdated to the date you became unemployed, not when your claim was processed. If you are determined to be eligible, you will be paid for all benefits due.
Will My Employer Know If I File For Unemployment
When an employee files for unemployment, the employer will receive a notification from the state unemployment commission.
The notification will be based on information provided by the employee supporting his or her application for benefits.
Once the employer receives the claim notice they need to take action.
The action the employer takes depends on whether they want to;contest the claim;or not.
Information Required To Apply For Unemployment
If youve been laid off from your job, the chances are high that you will qualify to file for unemployment benefits.
In most states, unemployed workers can apply online, over the phone, or, in some cases, by mailing a form. Many states provide information for applicants in numerous languages, including Spanish.
Applying online is the quickest and easiest way to file for unemployment. Claims are generally processed much more quickly, so you stand to start receiving benefits sooner than applying by phone or mail.

Establish & Change Payment Options
When you apply for benefits, TWC offers you one of two ways to get your benefit payments:
- Direct deposit, which is direct payment into your personal checking or savings account in a United States bank or credit union
- Debit card, which is issued by the TWC-contracted bank
TWC will deposit payments to the TWC debit card account unless you sign up for direct deposit.
If you signed up for direct deposit on a prior claim, TWC will use the checking or savings account information you previously provided.

The fastest and preferred method is to file for unemployment insurance benefits online using the Michigan Web Account Manager at michigan.gov/uia. Md Unemployment Login Weekly Claim
Those with a claim that became inactive this Sunday or Monday after filing their weekly claim certification will also have their claim automatically reactivated but do not need to refile this weeks claim certification. You will need:
- Your last employers business name, address and phone number
- First and last dates you worked for your last employer. If you worked for your last employer on more than one occasion, provide the most recent employment dates.
- Number of hours worked and pay rate if you worked the week you apply for benefits
- Information about the normal wage for the job you are seeking
- Alien Registration number
- A valid Texas Driver License number or Texas Identification Card number
File Your Weekly Claims

To start getting unemployment benefits, you need to file a weekly claim. This is different than the initial claim. You have to file both to get your money.
A weekly claim is how we figure out how much money to send you for that week. A week is Sunday through Saturday. You cant submit a weekly claim until the week is over.
To keep getting benefits, you need to file a weekly claim every week. File a weekly claim even if you worked that week. You need to report your hours and earnings for any work you did that week.
File your weekly claims even if you dont know if your application has been approved yet. It can take at least four weeks for us to process your application. If your application is approved, we will send you money for all the past weeks you were eligible for, as long as you filed your weekly claims.
