Alternative Ways To Contact Your State Unemployment Office For Answers To Your Pua Peuc And $300 Weekly Benefit Claim And Payment Questions

Its no secret that its been a constant challenge to try and get in touch with someone at your state unemployment office for issues with your unemployment claims and/or benefit processing questions. This has been exacerbated with 2021 extensions to the PUA and PEUC program that has left states scrambling to update their antiquated IT systems and created mass confusion for jobless people who are stuck in unemployment benefits limbo .

Whats worse is that even if you do get through to a live agent/representative to get clarity on why certain benefits have stopped or are not being paid, you may end up getting vague or incorrect answers . This has create a lot of anger and left people desolate as they are in desperate need of their UI benefits to make ends meet.

What is also happening is that many of the state unemployment representatives are new and are themselves dealing with the antiquated systems many state unemployment departments have, so if you feel like you are getting the run around ask to speak to a manager or someone who has access to do something with your claim. Dont let them transfer you or give you the run around. A good tip I heard was to get their name and ID number so you can use their name when talking to them or on the other end you can use their name if escalating an issue or want to file a complaint.

Most state UI agencies are actually pretty active on social media in posting updates to share the latest information on unemployment payments and/or delays. You can see relevant social media handles on some of the individual state unemployment pages I have set up for specific contact information but most large unemployment agencies have Facebook, Reddit and Twitter accounts. I follow a number on and , so you can follow me to get curated updates. From the state UI agency social media pages you can even try sending direct/private messages to get answers to your questions and also see the hundreds of comments from people likely in a similar boat to you. Just dont share any confidential or personal information.

Email

Surprisingly a lot of readers have said emailing your state unemployment department or agency has worked more effectively than trying to get a live agent. In fact under federal guidelines for these programs, states must provide claimants with alternate modes of contact, which may include email, and communicate with the claimantbased on his or her preferred method of contact. If the state contacts the claimant via email and the email is returned, the state must attempt to contact the claimant by U.S. mail.

Getting Through To A Live Person A Real Human At Edd:

Chances are you will have questions or need help filing your California Unemployment claim, plus you will have to have at least one initial telephone interview. However, getting through to a real, live human being at EDD if you missed their call can be near impossible.

There have been people who have called as many as 600 times or more with no luck. This is no exaggeration! However, there are tips and tricks to getting through to a real person so that you can speak to a real human at EDD. Here is a list of all the ones I could find.

If you hear the message, Welcome to, you are in luck. Next, you have to try a key combination to skip through to a live person.

New Yorkers Seeking Unemployment Benefits Still Desperate To Reach Help; Here Are Tips

Ten months into the coronavirus shutdown, it still takes a stroke of luck to get someone on the phone in the New York state unemployment office, according to many frustrated people who need answers.

Unable to access benefits, thousands of jobless people are relying on each other for advice and insider tricks.

Lenna Bennett said the most popular question on the unemployment Facebook group she moderates is this: What is the contact number for the New York State Department of Labor?

The answer is 888-209-8124.

In a time when most people no longer memorize phone numbers, unemployed New Yorkers can quickly recite that one.

What theyre looking for is an inside number, a short cut to waiting for hours on hold or being disconnected.

Some people call Gov. Andrew Cuomos office directly and hope to be transferred. They call senators and Assembly members.

They pass along magic tricks: Enter your social security number and pin incorrectly three times and you get transferred to a person.

Angela Alaimo, a union laborer from Malone, learned this from the group: Hit the prompt that asks if you need a translator, even if you dont speak another language.

Before I had seen that trick, I did call a few times the normal way and opted for a callback but never got a callback, she said.

People started to panic.

If you need help filing your tax return, figuring out payments, or any additional tax questions, the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center allows you to come in and speak with a member of the IRS to directly resolve these issues.

A valid photo ID and your taxpayer identification number or Social Security number are required to make an appointment with the assistance center. To schedule an appointment, call 844-545-5640. Using your zip code, you will need to find your local office;to make an appointment. Note that they are closed on federal holidays.

2.;;;Call the appropriate STATE legislator that represents you. They verify you live in their district, so be sure to reach out to the appropriate congressperson. Emails seem to take longer to get a response, so calling is faster as members of State Legislatures have people answering their phones.

3.;;;Tell them your problem with unemployment and ask for their help. The congressmens office will have a designated person inside their office who handles unemployment issues. That person will tell you that they can connect to unemployment on your behalf and that they have been assigned a real person at the unemployment office to work with. They get you info, and then they work their magic. Youll find that they either fix the problem or get someone who can fix it at unemployment to call you. Give them a number you will answer. If it is your cell, be sure the ringer is on as unemployment will only call you once or twice, and if you miss them, there is no number to call them back. Do not miss the call.

4.;;;The problem should get resolved within a week, and all the money due you will then be paid to you retroactive to the day you first filed for unemployment.

Joe emailed to say this strategy of contacting his state representative worked for him. It worked for my relative too, and the other ten people I have advised to try it. They were in different states, and it has been effective. Once your unemployment money starts, you file each week and get paid. Problem solved.

Many Americans are still waiting to receive their unemployment checks. Having lived through this with a relative, I know how hard it is and how desperate and frustrated you can get while you wait and wait and wait. My relative, Mike, tried calling his state unemployment office, and waited 6 hours only to be disconnected as they transferred him to the person who could help him. He would try to call some days and could not even get in the queue to wait on hold. The message just said, the unemployment department has been overwhelmed with calls, try the website or call back. He felt so powerless.

One day, I listened to a radio show with state and federal legislators answering questions. Able to ask them a question on the air, I asked about the unemployment problem my relative, and many others were experiencing. My local State Representative said, call my office, and I can help you solve this issue. So Mike did just that, and they reached unemployment and got Mike connected to a lady at unemployment who solved his filing issues. Five days later, Mike got a large check for all the past-due unemployment monies due to him.
