Email

Surprisingly a lot of readers have said emailing your state unemployment department or agency has worked more effectively than trying to get a live agent. In fact under federal guidelines for these programs, states must provide claimants with alternate modes of contact, which may include email, and communicate with the claimantbased on his or her preferred method of contact. If the state contacts the claimant via email and the email is returned, the state must attempt to contact the claimant by U.S. mail.

State Unemployment Phone Numbers And Getting In Touch With A Live Agent For Help With Your Delayed Or Pending Ui Benefits Claim

One thing many readers have been complaining about when it comes to getting help or information on their pending Unemployment Insurance payment or retroactive benefits claim is finding a number to call so that they can get through to someone they can speak to.

Due to ongoing staffing shortages at state UI agencies, COVID work restrictions and ongoing system/IT issues with unemployment filing systems it is very hard to get through a live person that can help you with claim issues or delayed current and back payments.

This has been acutely felt with the recently ended 2021 unemployment extensions and for PUA claimants who have to provide a lot more documentation to justify their claim. With state agencies focusing resources on updating IT systems and processing back payments related to the various UI program extensions, they have little time to take calls and actively help those desperately looking for help with their claims and wondering when they will start getting paid.

Thats why most agencies are directing people to their state website or social media channels to get more information. But a lot of time that information is generic and not helpful for most people with issues specific to their claim. So with that in mind here state UI agency contact numbers and some tips and tricks to get through to a live person.

Kentucky’s state seal on the outside of the Kentucky Career Center in downtown Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tens of thousands of Kentuckians are still waiting for unemployment benefits to go through after being left jobless for weeks.

In response to the demand, the state started a new hotline specifically for people who filed unemployment claims in March and still haven’t gotten their benefits. The hotline was supposed to open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and after a couple hours of issues, it was up and running and taking calls.

Anyone who filed in April and has not received benefits is being directed to call 502-564-2900. Employees taking the calls say they are being overwhelmed with calls from people who filed in April. They say there is unfortunately nothing the new hotline can help them with at this time.

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet said, as of March 16, 550,000 Kentuckians had filed unemployment claims. The system quickly became overwhelmed.

Of those who filed, there are 37,000 people who filed claims in March and still haven’t been paid. They received an email Monday night directing them to call the new hotline to help them with the claims.

One single mother of two said she filed a claim more than five weeks ago with nothing to show for it and bills piling up. She now just wants to now when she’ll be out of limbo.

Midnight Scramble: Snagging Phone Appointment For Kentucky Unemployment Help Isn’t Easy

Protestors gathered in Frankfort, Ky. on Feb. 23 to call attention to problems with the state’s unemployment insurance system.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. When Kentucky Auditor Mike Harmon said earlier this month that his office discovered 400,000 unopened emails from people seeking help with unemployment insurance, Gov. Andy Beshear offered some advice to people whose pleas may have gone unanswered.

For those that think your emails are in there, and you havent been helped, please go to the Labor Cabinet website, sign up for one of the appointments talk to a person there, Beshear said on Feb. 9.

Beshear was referring to the 125 phone appointments Kentucky unemployment specialists conduct daily.

But making an appointment isnt so easy, according to multiple people who have tried for weeks or months to do so. It requires staying up late and acting fast when the chance presents itself.

The phone appointments are the only opportunity for thousands of people needing help with their claims to get one-on-one assistance.

Except for a few one-off instances last year, Beshears administration still isnt offering in-person unemployment services at state employment offices, to make every effort to keep everyone safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kentuckys online scheduling tool for phone appointments is usually booked up. Check it and youre likely to get the message: No Availability – Please check back daily for new appointments.
