If Fraud Or Identity Theft Suspected Regarding Your Benefits And/or Form 1099

Will I receive a 1099G if I was a victim of identity theft?

It is the Departments goal to prevent any income that you did not receive or file for from being reported under your SSN. We are working diligently to process returned payments, debit cards, checks return a significant number of fraud calls and investigate identity theft complaints.

If you were a victim and payments were issued to you, but you returned the UC debit card, checks, or direct deposits that you received, you should NOT receive a 1099G. However, if you DO receive a 1099G and believe you shouldnt have because youve returned the funds and submitted an identity theft complaint, we ask for your patience while we work through our increased workload due to the pandemic.

If you were a victim of identity theft but no benefits were paid on the claim, you should NOT receive a 1099G. If a claim was opened and paid using your information and you did not receive the funds and therefore were unable to return them to the department, you should email the Delaware Division of Unemployment Insurance at to to file an identity theft complaint. Upon completion of the investigation, if it is found that you were a true victim of identity theft, a revised 1099G will be issued to you.

What do I do if I believe someone else filed and received UC benefit payments under my name or SSN without my permission?

  • Then you should email the Delaware Division of Unemployment Insurance at to to file an identity theft complaint.

This includes benefits paid under the federal CARES Act, Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation , state Extended Benefits , Trade Adjustment Assistance , Pandemic Unemployment Assistance , Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation , and Lost Wages Assistance . DES reports these benefits to the Internal Revenue Service for the calendar year in which the benefits were paid.

What If Youre A Freelancer In Nj Who Has Clients Based In Ny

If you dont actually step into any of your clients offices in New York, then you can claim that work as New Jersey income, says Feinberg, because 1) your business operates entirely out of your home office in New Jersey and 2) all of the work is conducted at home. Likewise, if you attend meetings in New York, but the bulk of the actual work takes place at home, then you can consider that to be New Jersey income.

What gets more complicated is if you are a freelancer and have to work in other states. Ideally, you would file in every state that you work in, says Feinberg, but that can become complicated if you are traveling to work in multiple other states, not just New York.

Feinberg notes that each case is unique with its own circumstances. You have to look at many factors, he says. If the clients are based in New York, if the checks are written in New York, if your bank account is in New York, etc. These help determine where you should file. The key is to look at the source state of the income.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. Jason Baker is one of thousands of Florida unemployment claimants experiencing an old-fashioned paper chase for a 1099-G tax form.

Baker, an employee with a Brevard County law firm in Indialantic, told News 6 he had been waiting six weeks to access the tax form from his DEO Connect account.

I was concerned about possibly missing the IRS deadline, Baker said. I simply could not access the form itself.

Baker and his wife Brooke were getting ready to move and with four kids and a dog, the last thing they needed was a botched tax return .

Baker told News 6 he had been back to work since last April and had not used the DEO Connect system in quite some time.

When he tried to download the 1099-G he hit a dead end.

You just go round and round with the DEO, if you can get them on the phone, a frustrated Baker said.

During the Zoom interview with News 6, a DEO representative called Baker and told him his tax form had been located and would be emailed immediately.

News 6 sent his case to the DEO Reemployment team two hours earlier, making this case the fastest to be resolved in Make Ends Meet franchise history.

I would say Getting Results was an understatement, a relieved Baker told News 6, The expediency in which the results were received is more than 5 stars, I cannot thank you enough.

The DEO tells News 6, email is the most efficient way to receive a copy of your tax form.
