How Do I Apply
To find out if you can receive EI benefits, you must submit an application online. You can apply:
- At home If you have access to the Internet at home, you can apply for EI benefits from there24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also use the computer of a friend or a family member.
- At a public Internet access site There are various locations in your community, such as public libraries, where you can access the Internet to apply for EI benefits.
- At a Service Canada Centre You can apply online at any Service Canada Centre using one of the many Internet kiosks available. To find the Service Canada Centre nearest you, visit the Service Canada website.

File Your Florida Unemployment Claim
Within one week of becoming unemployed, you should begin the claims process to receive your Reemployment Assistance benefits. The date your application is finished determines when you will begin receiving benefits. Claims always begin with the Sunday prior to the completion of the application. For example, an application completed on Wednesday will take effect on the Sunday before that Wednesday.
All claims in Florida must be completed online. The process should take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.
Those who need assistance because of disabilities, legal reasons, computer illiteracy or language barriers should call 1-800-681-8102.
Once your claim is filed, you will receive a confirmation notice that your claim has been received. You must request benefit payment no later than seven days from your scheduled report date. If your claim is accepted, it will take two to four weeks to receive your first payment. The week you file your claim is a “waiting week” during which no benefits are paid.
If you do not receive a confirmation notice, call the Claims Assistance Center toll free at 1-800-204-2418.
Important Information On Your Employment Insurance Access Code
Your access code is the four-digit code printed in the shaded area of your benefit statement. You need to have it with you whenever you want to obtain information about your benefit claim and when you submit your reports. Your access code is used to identify you and ensure the confidentiality of the information you provide.
Do not share your access code with anyone, since you will be held responsible if someone accesses your information or modifies your claim without your knowledge. Always store it in a safe place and, for added protection, be sure to store it separately from your Social Insurance Number.
If you received a temporary access code, you will need to change it. You can also change your current access code for security reasons. Simply call the EI Telephone Information Service at 1-800-206-7218 Choose “1” and follow the instructions to change your access code.
If you lose your access code, please call the EI Telephone Information Service at 1-800-206-7218 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Choose “0” to speak to an agent. You may also visit a Service Canada Centre. In either case, you will be asked questions to verify your identity, and you will be issued a new access code.

Some states dont assign certification days. Instead, they just tell you to certify for the previous week or weeks any time after the completion of the week through a selected window of time. Its usually one or two weeks. When you access the weekly claim system, it shows up to four weeks, which you can certify one at a time. How Much Will I Get
We cannot tell you exactly how much you will receive without having processed your application. However, we can tell you that the basic rate for calculating EI benefits is 55% of your average insurable weekly earnings. As of January 1, 2018, the maximum insurable earnings amount is $51,700. This means that you can receive a maximum amount of $547 per week.

Time Is Of The Essence
Though there is no deadline for filing unemployment, the longer you wait, the more you risk your most recent work experience no longer qualifying on a filed claim.
To receive unemployment you must meet state income and time worked requirements within a period of time called a “base period.”
In most states, your base period is a one-year time span consisting of the last four out of the most recent five calendar quarters worked before filing your claim.
Since you get paid in proportion to how much you earned during your base period, the longer you wait to file, the smaller the wages that will count towards your base period.
That could mean missing out on beaucoup bucksup to $742 a week, plus $25 per child, in the state of Massachusetts, for example.
Put another way, if you make $35,000 in Florida and file for unemployment right away, you will be eligible for the maximum weekly benefit of $275.
But let’s say you got laid off in October of the previous year and find some part-time work that earns you $1,000 instead of the $2,900 per month you were getting before.
You don’t file for unemployment because you figure you have some income, but then your part-time job gets eliminated in April and you wait until June to file.
Now you no longer meet the wage requirements and you’re out the full benefit.
Your goal should be to file your claim during week one. That is, for either total or partial unemployment, or potentially risk losing out on benefits.
Change Of Name Or Address
Another common reason that the IRS sits on so much unclaimed money is that it cannot locate the person to whom the money is owed. For example, if you move, change your name, or are disabled for an extended period of time, you might not receive a tax check back from the IRS. You’ve determined that you are generally qualified to receive unemployment.
Now it’s time to pull the trigger.
Here’s a breakdown of the process and advice on the nitty-gritty details you’ll be asked about when filing your claim:
Figure out what state’s UI best serves you. If you only worked in one state, you must file there, but if you’ve worked in two or more states during the last 18 months, it’s worth figuring out which state to file in.
Some states may offer more generous weekly benefits than others or allow you to collect for a longer period of time.
The rates constantly fluctuate based on current rates of unemployment.
But the majority of states pay between $300-$500 per week, while a handful offer more.

How Much Will My Weekly Payment Be
Your weekly benefit amount is shown on your Monetary Determination of Eligibility. Your WBA is based on total wages you earned in the base period.
You can determine your weekly benefit amount by dividing your total base period wages by 52. Then, multiply that number by 0.47. Your weekly benefit amount should be rounded down to the next whole dollar amount, up to a maximum of $390.00
For example, if your total wages in the base period was $30,000 then your WBA would be: $30,000 ÷ 52 = $576.92 × 0.47 = $271
Base Period Defined
Your base period includes the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the week you file an initial claim application for a new benefit year. The last quarter worked is called the lag quarter, and no wages from that quarter count in your base period.

What Happens If You Don’t Use Your Full Unemployment Benefits
When a person loses his job, not through his actions, but for reasons related to the company’s reorganization, he will generally qualify for the receipt of unemployment benefits. These benefits are paid by state agencies on a weekly or biweekly basis. These benefits are considered a government entitlement program, meaning that anyone who meets the criteria to receive them can do so. Unemployment insurance benefits are set up to be drawn for x number of weeks during the set Benefit year which started on the date the claim was filed. At that time, there was a claim set up with a specific Benefit Year Ending date, sometime in 2011, 52 weeks forward from the date it was filed. The claim was in place to be drawn at any time during that benefit year. It stated that fact on the monetary determination you received after filing that claim in 2010, so yes, you were told that. Since you never bothered checking back to see if your claim was approved. I assume you went to work somewhere But in any case, after that benefit year ending date passed, it’s as though that claim never existed. If you filed another claim now it would be based roughly on the two years back, from the date the claim is filed right now. Unemployment benefits are not based on your whole lifetime work history, just the last five or six quarters. And a claim you set up and never drew in 2010 is LONG GONE, there is no unclaimed money or way it is in any way still there for you.

Can Furloughed Workers Receive Unemployment Benefits
Yes. Furloughed workers those put on mandatory unpaid leave â are encouraged to apply for Florida unemployment benefits. If your hours were reduced or you were put on a zero-hour schedule, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits.
