First Payment
For all new claims, the first payment is usually sent by paper check.
Payment options
The Employment Department pays benefits electronically either by a U.S. Bank ReliaCard® Visa debit card or direct deposit. If you dont apply for direct deposit, you will be sent a ReliaCard®.
Direct deposit
With direct deposit, we electronically transfer your weekly benefit payment into your checking or savings account at your bank, credit union, or savings and loan. To apply for direct deposit you will need your routing and account numbers.
To apply:
- Use the Online Claim System and select electronic deposit, or
- Print the Authorization for Electronic Deposit Form and send it to us. Note: Due to our current workload, mailing or faxing these forms to us will delay your direct deposit. Using the Online Claim System is the quickest way to receive direct deposit.
Why Hasn’t My Debit Card Been Credited
There are several reasons why an expected payment may not arrive on your debit card. Here are a few of them:
- You failed to activate your debit card. When you received your debit card in the mail, you also receive instructions for activating the card by phone or online. If you didn’t activate your card or didn’t activate it properly, benefits won’t appear in your balance.
- You didn’t certify for benefits. States require you to certify your eligibility for benefits on a regular basis. If you fail to certify for a specific period, you won’t receive a payment. If you forgot to certify, your state may allow you to go back in the system and complete certification for that period. Don’t delay, however, after some time has lapsed, you may not be able to go back and claim benefits to which you were originally entitled.
- Your claim has been questioned or suspended. While this is unlikely, it sometimes happens that your unemployment agency receives information that causes it to suspend your claim while it investigates whether you are still eligible for benefits. In many cases, this happens because you made a mistake while certifying for benefits and answered a question in such a way that would disqualify you from a benefit payment.

Some states have automated phone and online systems that can tell you when a payment has been sent to your debit card. Check the service first to make sure that a payment has actually been issued.
What Was Included With The Cares Act And What Were The Effective Dates
The CARES Act created three new unemployment programs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation provided an additional $600 per week to an individual’s weekly benefit amount between 3/29/20 and 7/25/20.
- Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation provided up to 13 weeks of extended unemployment benefits between 3/29/20 and 12/26/20 to individuals who had exhausted their traditional Unemployment Insurance benefits.
- Pandemic Unemployment Assistance provided 39 weeks of unemployment benefits between 2/2/20 and 12/26/20 to self-employed, contract, and gig workers who are typically not eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits

Letter #1 Monetary Determination
This is not an approval, but rather tells you how much you could receive if you are approved. This document tells you how many weeks you will receive unemployment. Do not confuse the benefit year with how many weeks you will be eligible. The maximum number of weeks you can draw unemployment in Tennessee is 26 weeks .Not the correct amount or is an employer missing during the past 18 months?

Tennessee Way2go Card Details
Beginning July 9, 2016 all Unemployment Insurance payments issued via debit card will be deposited to a Way2Go Card® Debit MasterCard.
Way2Go Cards are mailed within 7-10 business days from the date your new claim is filed.
Additionally, claimants currently receiving benefits may also enroll for debit cards or direct deposit payments online at Jobs4TN.gov.
The Way2Go card is valid for three years. Individuals eligible to receive unemployment benefits during the three-year period will not receive a new card.
You will automatically receive the Tennessee UI Way2Go Debit MasterCard if you do not enroll in direct deposit no other action is required to receive a card.
You can enroll in, change, or cancel direct deposit anytime online while receiving unemployment benefits.

How Are Unemployment Benefits Paid
Unemployment benefits are paid to a debit card provided by the state’s vendor, Conduent. The card will be issued to you at the time your first eligible week processes. It normally takes between 10-14 days to receive the card. Do not throw the debit card away. You have two options to receive payments.
- You may receive your payments via the debit card, or
- You may transfer the payments from the debit card into your own U.S. banking account, for no fee.
To access payments through either option, you must activate the card by following the instructions sent with the card. To set up this recurring transfers, you must activate your card and then visit GoProgram.com or call 866-320-8699 and use the automated system to enter your banking information. If you have previously been issued a debit card for benefit payments within the past three years, your payment will be issued to that debit card unless otherwise specified. If you no longer have your previously issued debit card, please contact Conduent at 866-320-8699.

The DUA Debit MasterCard® is a safe and secure method of receiving your Unemployment Insurance benefits. You will receive benefits via the debit card unless you sign up for direct deposit to a checking or savings account. Keep in mind your first benefit payment will always be a paper check. For security purposes, your debit card will be mailed to the address you have on file in an unmarked envelope.

What Is Pua And Who Is Eligible
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance was a federal unemployment benefit provided to US citizens not traditionally eligible for regular Unemployment Insurance such as self-employed, contract, and gig workers. PUA was established through the CARES Act , extended through CAA and ARP Acts , but discontinued in Oklahoma on 6/26/2021.
What Is The Process And Timeline For Reviewing My Unemployment Claim
Once your claim is filed, OESC must first determine if you are monetarily eligible for benefits. We may need to request wages from other states, complete investigations on missing wages, request federal agency or military wages, or adjust your claims base period to accurately determine monetary eligibility.
Once determined monetarily eligible, we will review your claim to determine if you are allowed benefits under the Oklahoma Employment Security Act. The U.S. Department of Labor has established that this eligibility determination should be issued within 21 days of a claim becoming monetarily eligible. Way2go Debit Card About To Expire
If your Way2Go is about to expire, there is nothing you have to do.
Way2Go will mail you a new card automatically prior to the expiration date of your current card.
