How Long After You File Unemployment Do You Get Paid
In order to be paid benefits, you must request payment every week. If you are eligible for benefits, payment will be deposited to an unemployment debit card. After claim processing, payment may take two to three business days to receive from the time you submit your payment request.
What To Do If You Don’t Receive Your Payment
If your payment is more than a few days late, call your unemployment office. They will be able to provide you with information as to whether or not your payment has been processed and what to do if your payment is delayed or there’s been some kind of issue.
Most states have a special number to call for debit card problems.
How To Apply For Unemployment Benefits
With an overwhelming majority of unemployment offices closed due to social distancing orders, applying for unemployment in person is no longer an option until local governments decide its safe for them to reopen. The only remaining options are to apply by phone or online.
But it appears applying for unemployment benefits over the phone isnt allowed in all states. The Connecticut Department of Labor unemployment benefits website, for example, features a disclaimer in giant red letters that reads: Telephone assistance is not available for unemployment claims. Please do not call for unemployment claims assistance.
Even if your state allows workers to file for unemployment over the phone, its a good idea to file online as a first option due to hours-long wait times being reported across the board.;If your states unemployment benefits website wont load or keeps crashing, dont panic. Keep trying throughout the day to see if web traffic slows down at a later time. If youre still having technical difficulties, try accessing the online application during off-peak hours, between midnight and 5 a.m.;;

Keep your debit card it can be used for future unemployment benefits for up to three years. Read the information included with your card for terms, fees, and conditions. You are responsible for any fees charged. It is your responsibility to monitor the balance in your account to avoid overdrafts.
Why Hasn’t My Debit Card Been Credited
There are several reasons why an expected payment may not arrive on your debit card. Here are a few of them:
- You failed to activate your debit card. When you received your debit card in the mail, you also receive instructions for activating the card by phone or online. If you didn’t activate your card or didn’t activate it properly, benefits won’t appear in your balance.
- You didn’t certify for benefits. States require you to certify your eligibility for benefits on a regular basis. If you fail to certify for a specific period, you won’t receive a payment. If you forgot to certify, your state may allow you to go back in the system and complete certification for that period. Don’t delay, however, after some time has lapsed, you may not be able to go back and claim benefits to which you were originally entitled.
- Your claim has been questioned or suspended. While this is unlikely, it sometimes happens that your unemployment agency receives information that causes it to suspend your claim while it investigates whether you are still eligible for benefits. In many cases, this happens because you made a mistake while certifying for benefits and answered a question in such a way that would disqualify you from a benefit payment.
Some states have automated phone and online systems that can tell you when a payment has been sent to your debit card. Check the service first to make sure that a payment has actually been issued.

How Are My Weekly Pua Payments Calculated
The computation of the weekly assistance amount for PUA will be based on the gross wages for an unemployed worker and net earnings for self-employed individuals. All wages earned for the performance of services in the most recently completed tax year will be used to compute the weekly assistance amount.
The weekly assistance amount will be calculated in accordance with Oklahoma Employment Security Law. The weekly amount shall be the weekly amount of compensation that the individual would have been paid as regular unemployment insurance compensation unless the weekly benefit amount is less than 50% of the average weekly payment of regular unemployment insurance benefits. The maximum weekly assistance amount shall not exceed the maximum weekly benefit amount of regular unemployment insurance benefits payable in the state. Employment, wages, and self-employment that are not covered by the Oklahoma Employment Security Law shall be treated in the same manner and with the same effect as covered employment and wages. Employment and wages that are prohibited by federal law shall not be included in the computation of weekly assistance amount.

What Is A Benefit Year
Your benefit year is the 52-week time period that your unemployment claim is considered active before you need to reapply. This starts when you first filed and were approved for unemployment benefits, and last for 52 weeks from when you were eligible. This does not necessarily mean you will be eligible for benefits all 52 weeks, which depends on your individual situation and federal extensions.;
Your State Is Switching Payment Providers
In Maryland, the Division of Unemployment Insurance switched from using Bank of America to Wells Fargo. Other Debit Card Considerations
Checking purchases: The back of your debit card should include a customer service number as well as a website address. These services can provide you with statements that show you your recent purchases.
Minimizing fees: Some debit card companies, including those contracted by state unemployment departments, charge fees for certain activities, such as using an ATM or taking advantage of bill pay services. Make sure you understand these fees before you use your card, as well as ways that you can minimize or avoid fees entirely:
An alternative to an unemployment debit card is to request your benefits via direct deposit into a checking or savings account. There are usually no fees associated with the direct deposit, and you won’t have to worry about ATM limits, or finding a no-fee ATM when accessing your funds.
Receive Your Benefit Payments
It takes at least three weeks to process a claim for unemployment benefits and issue payment to most eligible workers.
When your first benefit payment is available, you will receive a debit card in the mail. Once you activate the card you can track, use, and transfer your benefit payments. Your card is valid for three years from the date it is issued and is used for all EDD benefit programs, so you should keep it until it expires.
If you received Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance, or Paid Family Leave benefits on a debit card in the last three years, you will receive your benefit payments on that card. If your card has expired, a new card will automatically be sent to you once funds are available.
Note: If you were issued a debit card before 2015, you must request a new one. Visit Bank of Americas website or contact Bank of America at 1-866-692-9374 .
If you lost your debit card, contact Bank of America as early as possible in the application process to request a replacement card before your first payment. Your new card will arrive 7 to 10 business days from the order date. You have a couple options to request a new card:
- Visit the Bank of America website.
- Contact Bank of America at 1-866-692-9374 . You do not need to have your old card number or speak to a representative. Choose the Lost or Stolen option in the automated menu. The call center is experiencing higher than normal wait times and Bank of America is working to address the issue.
