Max Nj Weekly Jobless Benefit To Increase By $73 In 2022

The maximum benefit rates for New Jersey Unemployment Insurance, Temporary Disability Insurance, Family Leave Insurance, and Workers Compensation will be increasing in 2022, state officials announced on Wednesday.

The increased rates will be effective for new claims dated Jan. 2, 2022, and later.

In the new year, the maximum weekly benefit amount for new Unemployment Insurance beneficiaries increases to $804, from $731, the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development said.

The maximum weekly benefit for new state plan Temporary Disability and Family Leave Insurance claims increases to $993, from $903, while the maximum weekly benefit for new Workers Compensation claims rises to $1,065, from $969, the NJDOL said.

Maximum benefit rates are recalculated each year based on the statewide average weekly wage. The benefit rates and taxable wage base for 2022 reflect the $1,419.52 average weekly wage for 2020, which rose by 9.9%, largely due to the number of low-wage workers who were out of work during the pandemic and the higher wages paid to those who remained on the job.

The taxable wage base, or the maximum amount that workers and employers must pay unemployment, temporary disability and family leave taxes on, will also rise in 2022.

The taxable wage base for workers covered under the Temporary Disability and Family Leave Insurance programs will increase to $151,900 for 2022.

Us Labor Market Still Tight Despite Continuing Claims Hitting 10

    • Weekly jobless claims increase 4,000 to 230,000
    • Continuing claims rise 62,000 to 1.671 million

WASHINGTON, Dec 8 â The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits increased moderately last week, pointing to a still-tight and strong labor market despite growing fears of a recession as the Federal Reserve fights to dampen demand.

Though the weekly jobless claims report from the Labor Department on Thursday showed unemployment rolls, or the so-called continuing claims rising to a 10-month high in late November, economists cautioned against reading too much into the move as the data are volatile around this time of the year.

Labor market tightness and resilience keeps the U.S. central bank on course to continue hiking interest rates for a while.

âIt is too early to interpret higher continuing claims as a signal of a loosening labor market,â said Isfar Munir, an economist at Citigroup in New York. âThe holiday time is generally not attractive to workers to start a new job, compounded by many firms temporarily closing during the holiday period.â

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 230,000 for the week ended Dec. 3. Last weekâs increase was in line with economistsâ expectations. Claims are well below the 270,000 threshold, which economists said would raise a red flag for the labor market.
