What Does Pending Resolution Mean For Unemployment In North Carolina

Are Weekly Claim Certifications Required In North Carolina
Yes. To continue to receive benefits each week, you must certify your claim. You can do this online at the DES website or file by telephone by calling 888-372-3453.
You must follow these NC Unemployment guidelines:
- For North Carolina unemployment eligibility, the earliest you can file a weekly certification is on each Sunday. The questions you will need to answer will cover the prior seven-day period of Sunday through Saturday.
- You must file your North Carolina weekly claims within 14 days from the week ending date that you are claiming. For DES purposes, the week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday.
- If you do not file within that 14 day period, you will not be able to claim benefits for that week. You will be required to reopen your claim and serve another unpaid waiting week.
- If you use the telephone to file your claim and the last number of your Social Security number is an odd number, you will need to call in and file your claim on Monday for each week. If your Social Security number ends in an even number, you will need to call in on Tuesday. If you miss either of these days, you can also call in on Wednesday through Sunday.
- The hours to file your claim by both computer and by telephone are 8 am to midnight.

Impacted By The Coronavirus How To File For Unemployment In Nc

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Gov. Roy Cooper issued an Executive Order Tuesday in response to the coronavirus pandemic that limits bars and restaurants to takeout and delivery orders only. No one is allowed to eat inside these establishments.
Many people in the service and hospitality industries, among others, have lost their jobs during this tumultuous time.
The reality is, people will be losing jobs and businesses have lost customers, Governor Cooper said.
That being said, Coopers executive order does the following:
- removes the one-week waiting period to apply for unemployment benefits for those workers who lose their jobs
- removes the requirement that a person must look for another job during this time when so many potential employers are closed and social distancing guidelines are in effect
- allows employees who lose their jobs or, in certain cases have their hours reduced due to COVID-19 issues, to apply for unemployment benefits
- waives the requirement that part of the application process be in person
- directs that these unemployment losses wont be counted against employers

Do I Have To Look For A Job To Get North Carolina Unemployment Benefits
One of the requirements for collecting benefits is that recipients must conduct an active and ongoing job search each week. Claimants must contact at least five potential employers during the week. Failure to make at least five contacts in a week could result in your benefits being denied or delayed for that week.

What Kind Of Work Must I Accept
You must accept any suitable work during your first 10 weeks of the benefit period based on such factors as your experience, customary occupation, prior earnings, etc. During the remaining weeks, any suitable work must be considered. NOTE: Suitable work will be any work offered that pays 120% of your weekly benefit amount beginning with the eleventh week after you file your claim.
How To File A Second

After an initial appeal hearing with the North Carolina Appeals Section, you will receive a written decision stating whether your appeal has been granted or not. How Do I Find Out My Weekly Benefit Amount How Do I Protest The Determination Of My Weekly Benefit Amount
After you file a claim, you will be mailed a Wage Transcript and Monetary Determination form .
This will show your quarterly wages paid by each base period employer and your monetary eligibility, including your weekly benefit amount, duration of benefits and effective date of your claim. If you have been found ineligible for a weekly benefit, the reason will be shown on the form.

Expired Federal Pandemic Unemployment Programs
However, these federal programs ended on September 6, 2021. In some states, they ended even earlier: About half the states decided to stop participating in these programs before they expired.
For weeks of unemployment beginning on or after September 6, 2021, these benefits will no longer be available. That means:
- Benefits will no longer be available to the millions of gig workers, contractors, and freelancers who were receiving unemployment through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program.
- Benefits will no longer be available through the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, which offered additional benefits to those who were still unemployed when they used up their state benefits.
