Pas New Unemployment Benefits System Now Online Glitches Reported
HARRISBURG, Pa. Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier said Tuesday the new unemployment benefits system is now online and accepting claims at benefits.uc.pa.gov.
The new unemployment compensation system replaces a 40-year-old mainframe that made filing for unemployment benefits complicated for users and processing benefits cumbersome for staff, according to a news release from the state Department of Labor & Industry.
The state says the new system will make filing for benefits easier and faster for users and that staff will need less time to process claims, which is expected to help reduce the number of users waiting for their claim to be processed.
A soft launch of the new UC system took place just after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, with more than 41,000 people filing claims by 10:40 a.m.
A phone issue independent of the new system launch that affected multiple state agencies temporarily caused L& Is unemployment hotlines to become unavailable Tuesday, according to the department news release. The phone system came back online at around 11 a.m., and the state said people with questions about the new system can call the Unemployment Compensation Service Center at 888-313-7284 or email .
L& I said a small percentage of users are experiencing an issue logging in with their Keystone ID or when they attempt to change their payment type. The issue is related to server connectivity, and a fix is underway, the department said.

How To Get A Response Regarding Your Unemployment Benefits
From time to time claims get stalled and/or payments are delayed. Efforts to reach claims representatives by phone are often unsuccessful, or fail to achieve the desired result. Even visits to your local career center can fail to bear fruit.
In that event, if you have been waiting more than three-four weeks for a response/approval and or benefits, we strongly recommend you send an email to your elected state representative, describing your issue. Mohammed Saiful Islam got a taste of how antiquated the technology that runs New York States unemployment-insurance system is when he had to go to a Staples store in the middle of a pandemic to fax his pay stubs to Albany.
Mr. Islam, a Lyft driver who lives in Queens and has been idled by the outbreak, is among more than 450,000 New Yorkers who have tried, often in vain, to apply for unemployment benefits in the past three weeks.
As he and many others discovered, the states archaic systems were woefully unprepared for the deluge of claims. In Mr. Islams case, he said it took him four days to reach someone who could explain what he had to do to complete the application process.
State officials admitted as recently as last summer that there were problems with the technology used for such applications, describing New Yorks unemployment-insurance systems as relics from the heyday of mainframe computers.
The software programs that run the systems were written in the 1970s and 1980s and remain constrained by the technology of that era, officials wrote while seeking bids as part of a planned modernization project.

To qualify for Florida unemployment benefits, you must meet several criteria:
- You must have lost your job through no fault of your own. You wonât qualify if you quit for personal reasons or were terminated for malicious misconduct. Poor job performance does not disqualify you.
- You must be totally or partially unemployed. Partially unemployed means your hours were reduced or youâre a part-time worker who canât find additional work.
- You must have earned at least $3,400 before taxes in what is called the base period, which is the first four complete quarters beginning 18 months prior to your claim.
- You must be able to work, available to work, and actively seeking work. This includes being able to get to a job and have child care if necessary.
