Millions of workers have filed for unemployment insurance benefits as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. If youve lost your job or a portion of your income, you can apply for benefits through your state unemployment program, and if you qualify, you have options for how you can receive this money.

In most states, you can receive your money either on a state-issued prepaid debit card or by having it directly deposited into your own bank or credit union account or onto an existing prepaid card. In some states, receiving paper checks is also an option. While the majority of workers who are eligible for unemployment benefits have already filed as a result of COVID-19, many states will allow you to make changes to the way you receive your benefits.

Which Documents To Send

Sometimes the DOL will ask you for specific documents. If thatâs the case, then send in what they asked for. For example, this one person was asked to send in a picture of himself holding his ID and another person was asked to send in a NY utility bill.

If you received a generic request for documents, either via form or letter in the mail, or if you havenât received any messages, but think that this might be the problem, then send pictures of the front and back of three documents.

I have seen too many inconsistencies in what the DOL requires to verify ID, so try to cover your bases and send in more documents rather than less. You are generally meant to send in 3 pieces of ID. If you have 4 valid pieces of ID, you may as well send in all 4.

The documents listed below should be your first choice.

First ID: Social Security Card

Second ID: If you have a NY State ID , then send that as your second ID. If you donât have NY State ID but do have a Medicaid card, then send that. If you donât have a NY State ID or Medicaid card, but do have a school ID, send that.

Third ID: Birth certificate or Passport: If you didnât send a NY State ID, then send your birth certificate and passport. Even if you did send in your State ID and Birth Certificate, send your passport as a 4th ID.

Benefit Year End Date

A regular unemployment insurance benefit year ends 12 months after the claim started.

You cannot be paid for weeks of unemployment after your benefit year ends, even if you have a balance on your claim. Continue to certify for benefits if you have weeks available within your benefit year.

You can reapply for a new claim if you earned enough wages in the last 18 months and are still unemployed or working part time. Apply online, and we will notify you when your new claim is processed. This usually takes two to three weeks.

If you served in the military, worked for a federal government agency, or worked in a state outside of California within the last 18 months, you must reapply for a new claim by phone, mail, or fax.

You do not need to reapply if you did not earn enough wages in the last 18 months to establish a new claim.

To find your benefit year end date, log in to UI OnlineSMand view your Claim Summary. Your benefit year end date is 12 months after the start of your Benefit Year.

Youll answer questions about how much time you worked or any wages you earned that week. If you earned $0, youll receive your maximum unemployment benefit for that week.

    When you sign up for online services, you will select a User ID and password. Your password protects your identity and privacy.     Create And Set Up Miwam Account

    On the next screen, you will click on sign in to MiLOGIN on the MiLOGIN homepage. You will click on sign up, which will take you to the page to create your profile. Complete the required information.

    After you have agreed to the Terms & Conditions, select next. You will be asked provide user ID and password information to complete your profile. Please pay close attention to the requirements.

    For security option, choose your preferred password recovery methods. Multiple options can be selected.

    After you create your account, you will enter your social security number and date of birth to begin linking the unemployment insurance account to MiLOGIN. Once you click Submit you have now successfully linked your MiLOGIN username to your record with unemployment insurance.
