The number of Floridians applying for unemployment benefits exploded last week. So did questions about how much money workers can get and how they can navigate the states balky system. Here are a few:

Im unemployed. How much does Florida offer?

The state offers a maximum of $275 a week based on your earnings for up to 12 weeks. An additional week is added for every 0.5 percent increase in the state unemployment rate above 5 percent. The maximum is 23 weeks when the unemployment rate gets above 10.5 percent. One catch: The state normally makes the calculation on the number of weeks once a year, according to state statute, usually sometime in October or later.

What about the jobless benefits from the federal stimulus package?

You can get an extra $600 a week through July 31. The package also provides an additional 13 weeks in state benefits. Its possible that another extended benefits program will kick in that adds more weeks, but that hasnt happened yet.

What if I earned less than $600 a week before I lost my job?

Can I be denied state benefits based on getting the $600 a week?

Exception To Benefit Eligibility Conditions

If you are for the short term laid off because of lack of work, you still have to register and make a claim, but you will not be needed to report to the one-stop career center. If you are a union member who normally gets employment through a union hiring hall, you also do not have to report to the one-stop center, as per Florida Statutes 443.091.

So once you recognize that youre eligible, you have to file a claim for unemployment compensation benefits. You can do this online at www.fluidnow.com or at the toll free number 1-800-204-2418. You can also file by mail. For detail check filing for Florida unemployment benefits article.

After you file your claim, then you need to wait and see how much your unemployment compensation pay will be. You will be sent a wage transcript clarifying what your wage credits and how long you may obtain benefits.

Thats how you get unemployment benefits in Florida State. You must first meet the eligibility requirements. After that you must file a claim and wait for your transcript determination. Then you can anticipate weekly unemployment pay to aid you and obtain another job.

Misconduct is when an employee does something that goes against their employers conduct or working policies. It may not even be intentional. Misconduct does not usually include poor job performance or a one-time incident of poor judgment.

If you have quit a job, you can get Reemployment Assistance as long as you can prove that you quit for a good cause attributable to your employer. This includes situations where your former boss substantially changed the terms of employment, such as the type of work demanded of you, the rate of pay you received, or the number of hours expected from you. If you have a health problem, you might not be required to prove good cause attributable to your employer.

What If My Wages Or Employer Is Not In Duas System

When your employer improperly treats you as an independent contractor, rather than an employee, they might not report your wage information to DUA as required. As a result, when you file a claim for unemployment benefits, your initial monetary determination may not reflect all of your wages or employment information. This may lead to a disqualification notice saying you do not have enough wages on file to qualify for unemployment benefits, or you may receive a lower weekly benefit amount.

When you receive a monetary determination from DUA, review the wage and employer information included on page two of the notice carefully. If you believe any wage or employer information is missing or incorrect, please call DUA at 626-6800 for assistance correcting this information.

If you have evidence of the pay you received from an employer that you worked for during your base period that is not listed on your monetary determination, or of pay you received that is not accurately reported on your monetary determination, please have that ready to provide to DUA. Evidence might include paystubs, tax forms , or bank statements showing pay deposits. You may follow the instructions on your notice to send copies of this evidence to DUA along with a wage and employer correction form and to appeal your monetary determination.
